Attn Engine Rebuilders: Can I reuse these parts in my rebuild??
There are a couple of parts that I am wary of putting back in my rebuild. The parts in question are the main thrust washer, the front rotor housing, and both rotor bearings. I have provided links to pictures of each part in that respectable order. The thrust washer has some pitting that I can catch a pick on. The front housing has some pretty bad pitting where the o-rings seal. Can this pit be filled in with epoxy or filled in with a tig welder? The rotor bearings look as though a lot of babbit has been stripped off. Are they too far gone? Also, there is some slight pitting in the bearings. If these bearings need replaced, how are they removed and reseated? Will I have to take them to a machine shop?
Thanks for your input

I would never reuse a thrust washer on anything, just becuase it is machined to tolerences to accept a certain ammount of play, so that's a no in my opinion. The bearing don't look that bad, and the housing dosen't look like it would be a problem, but I don't know, because I don't have much experiance with housing problem IDing, so don't quote me.
Your rotor housing looks to be the only usable part, though I can't see if there is any pitting from them trianlge coner piece of the apex seal.....
Those bearings show alot of wear I have never personally seen any that bad....and the thrust plate should be replaced

No, no, and no. That pitting on that housing looks like it's encroached more than halfway into the coolant seal's mating surface. You'd have an almost immediate water pumper if you used it, regardless of the wear or lack thereof on the compression surface.
Okay, I figured the housing was too far gone. So is there any way of filling in that pitting, or am I looking at a housing replacement no matter what? In that case, is there somewhere I can get ahold of a good used rotor housing? As for the rotor bearings, how do I remove and install them? Is this a job for a machine shop? I figure they are pressed in, right?

there is a procedure for removing them in the Haynes manual. I dont' remember if the FSM shows the same procedure but I think it does. Its not pressed in so hard that you need a machine shop to do it, though they can. The alternative is using a rubber mallet or hammer like in the book.

Rotor Housing - find a replacement!
Rotor Bearing, a local guy who builds engines for truck pulls does mine. Had to help him throught he first one, now they are all done very well
There is a rotory specialty shop down the road from me, so if I have trouble getting the bearings out I'll take the rotors there. Where is a good place to find used rotor housings? I can't afford a new one.
thanks

if you don't have the rotor bearing removal installation tool... take your rotors to the shop before you even dick with it, ,it will save you one hell of a headache. The damn bearing like to twist a bit clockwise as they go in and if your not careful, the tab will be JUST out of allignment by the time you get it down into position
I freeze the bearings before i install them, makes it a lot smoother installation.
