ATF "trick"

Just out of the blue, will the atf trick work on an already decent running motor ? Most of the time the trick is for motors that sat for a while and doesn't start. To my knowledge, putting atf in the spark plug holes and cranking the motor is supposed to restore a little bit of compression. But if I were to do that to my already running car, will that give me a bit more compression if I am low? or will that not be good for my motor?

it is sometimes used to loosen up sticky apex seals and will help to a degree ..if your motor is runnin good though it's not goin to make a difference.it's lube not a patch..it will help in certain instances of flooding but in the case of using it to RESTORE compression..if the engine is worn it is not going to be a miracle cure.only a rebuild will cure that...$.02

So I see. So it wouldn't hurt to do it?

It could hurt it, and it's not necessary, so you shouldn't do it.

But for just in case I do have sticky seals.

just doit its a trick used to get a flooded car runnin so i dont see why it would harm ur car if u did it just once tho

misterstyx69 11-16-05 01:10 AM

is the car running?..is it going from POINT A to POINT B????...then don't do it..it's not the cure..put it to ya this way ..how could a seal get sticky if it's constantly moving back and forth?(runnin engine)it's bein lubricated by oil already..the reason for puttin the atf in a car that has sat for awhile is the seals were not being lubed and it is being used as a precautionary measure to assure that the seals have a bit of lube so that when they do move they won't break..there are other things besides ATF..but seeing you don't need it..no need to mention it!!

did not work for me....
