arghh! What size is this gasket?

I can't remember what the damn thing is called...there's a wide flange bolt that screws into the crank on the front of the motor. There's a copper gasket under it. Somehow that bolt backed out and the gasket got buggered up...now I'm leaking oil.

Anyone know what size the gasket is?

damn...that doesn't say what size it is. I can't order it...I need to go find one today. This is my daily car...can't have it spewing oil all over the place.

Might wanna check endplay if the e-shaft bolt came out.

RotaryRocket88 06-25-10 04:35 PM

^ This. You can drop a thrust bearing if the bolt comes out and the clutch pedal isn't depressed. If the hub wasn't removed, and the e-shaft wasn't played with at all, you can get lucky and have it stay in place.

The bolt didn't "come out"...it loosened up a bit due to some extra stress from the crank pulley bolts wallowing. The crank pulleys came off-center a hair and everything went to knocking.

The bolt just loosened up enough to let a little oil through. I accidentally loosed it a bit more discovering such a thing, then tightened it back down with the gasket seated improperly.

if the bolt was loose enough to let that copper crush washer fall out of place then it was certainly loose enough for the thrust bearings to fall.

Makenzie71 06-25-10 10:26 PM

How would I know if dropped? There doesn't seem to be any extra movement in the pullies and she pulled all the way to redline half a dozen times today with no unusual noises/behaviors.

K-Tune 06-25-10 11:03 PM

check for play with a pry bar or large screwdriver. first check the crank pulley, then remove the flywheel inspection cover and pry on the flywheel to check for play in the other direction.

What would be the result of a dropped thrust in a 13B?

This sums it up: http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/pulley.htm

If you don't mind changing the oil, you can drain it and check for pieces of bearing. If it's clean, you can be pretty sure you're in the clear. It sounds like your leak will require you to buy some new oil anyway.
