Apexi question

I have a apexi dealer close by.
My question is, What does apexi
sell that is like a HKS F-con, for a
1987 TII. Engine managemnt computer.

The older model S-AFC & the newer S-AFC II.

Check out their web site www.apexi.com (the english page of course).

Thanks man. :bigthumb:

On there website it only
mentions that it can be
used on a 93-95 rx7. Can
it be modified to work on
a 87 TII ?

It can be used on any Rx-7 without modification; you only have to change the settings on the piggyback according to the car.
In case you go for the old one, the 5 knobs one (Super AFC), let me know and I'll give you the settings. Other members will be able to give you the settings for the S-AFC I & II (the digital ones)

Best regards

The SAFC (II) is not comparable to the HKS FCon, nowhere near it.
Apexi makes the power FC which IS comparable to the FCon (actually, better than it). However, these are hard to get hold of for the FC. they do exist (made by APEngineering) and can be ordered through a limited number of shops.

Deevious, please tell me where... i would love to pick one up... It was my understanding that Power FCs never made it for the FC.

So the only fuel managment computer
is the HKS fcon?

There are several myths in this thread.

The HKS PFC F-CON is a piggy-back fuel-only computer.
It has it's own plug-through harness that allows it to install very easily between your stock ECU and the stock engine harness.
The F-CON has it's own MAP sensor to monitor boost levels.
The F-CON has a single dial to adjust general rich / lean AFR's on the circuit borad once you open the cover.
With the optional HKS GCC, the GCC allows the F-CON to adjust fuel at certain RPM bands.

The A'PEXi S-AFC (whatever current version it's on now), is a fuel-only computer that manipulates the fuel curve by intercepting the AFM signal and spitting a modified voltage according to how you set the RPM settings on the S-AFC.
The S-AFC is basically an HKS PFC F-CON + GCC.
Although not as sophisticated (i.e. dedicated MAP sensor), the end-result is close.

HKS does offer a cheaper Super AFR that does basically what an A'PEXi S-AFC without all the fancy electronics of the PFC F-CON + GCC.

The A'PEXi Power FC started out as a piggy-back fuel *and* ignition timing computer.
A'PEXi was able to adopt it as a full stand-alone fuel and ignition timing computer.
Thus, the A'PEXi Power FC is one step higher over the HKS PFC F-CON, due to the fact that the F-CON *cannot* control ignition timing.

So to summarize...
A'PEXi S-AFC = HKS Super AFR
A'PEXi S-AFC = roughly HKS PFC F-CON + GCC, for much less money
HKS PFC F-CON <> (not equal to) A'PEXi Power FC
In fact, A'PEXi Power FC > HKS PFC F-CON

A'pexi Power FC's are only availbile for the kouki (Series 5, '89-'91) Turbo FC's. They are a modified FD unit and are incompatible with the Zenki models (S4's) due to the S5 having similar electronics to the FD (S6). At least, this is what I heard when attempting to order one.

That explains it, Thanks :beerchug:
