Apexi Power Intake
 

i have an 87 s4 turbo 2 engine and am thinking of getting the apexi power intake. however, it is listed to fit 89-91. if i get it, will i run into any issues?

The S4 engine got a almost rectangular intake, at least at the air filter.

The S5 got a round one.

you can buy a s4 adapter on ebay for about $10. it gives you the round intake you need for the filter

Absolutely. It does not fit the S4.

It is made to fit the round s5 style AFM. It will not work o the s4

An adapter is your best friend, I have this intake on my s4

so i just look for intake adapter on ebay? will this one work?

ok so i got maf adapter, coupler and the power intake but im stumped on how these two pieces will connect.

there's no space on the apexi intake adapter for the coupler so i'm thinking of welding a piece on there to give enough space to attach the coupler to the maf adapter. how did you install yours?

It seems that round metal "adapter" is meant for a bolt on air filter (look at the holes around the circumference). I have never seen something like that before.

Can you take another picture with those parts separated but showing them both?

Usually you just connect the air filter to the SQUARE adapter, and bolt that to your AFM. Then use a clamp and clamp the air filter to the round portion of the square adapter. In your picture you have a additional adapter.

The square end should bolt to your MAF and the round end should bolt to your apex'i filter I think. The filter supplied in the kit had threaded inserts around it in a circle pattern. It does not attach with a silicon coupler.

Post a picture of all the parts together on a table if you still need help.

Only way I see that setup working is if you cut the tube off the square adapter and TIG weld the APEXi filter adapter to it, or at least cut it shorter (the tube) for clearance (measure how close it will be to the front wall of the car) and TIG the adapter to it. If you go this route, make sure you line up the orientation of the outlet for the airpump correctly. Do not MIG, it will look like crap.

The way that filter adapter is made, it's for an S5 only. There are people who have swapped an S5 AFM into an S4, maybe you can go that route? Everything will work then. On the Apexi adapter, there should be holes on the side of it to bolt the S5 AFM, correct? If you get the S5 AFM, make sure it comes with the bracket for it or it won't work.

You can just get a standard cone filter and clamp to that s4 square adapter you have also. Best bet is to TIG it on the square adapter though.

i have the same setup; apexi intake on s4. first thing did was get a 3" to 2.5" silicone coupler. 3" end went around the adpater, and the 2.5" portion fit inside the apexi mount pretty snug, and i bent the brackets to support the filter. only problem with that setup is you choke your intake to 2.5" at the base of the filter. i ended up getting the adapter and filter base welded together. i had a friend of a friend who knew how to weld them together (the adapter is billet alum whereas the base was casted, and i was told initially that they could not be welded together), so i think getting them welded is your best option.

sell the apexi intake and pick up a hks, greddy, k&n, aem 3" round filter so you dont have to mickey mouse it. Any quality 3" cone filter will fit that adapter and you will be good to go.

I have that intake at home. Had it on my old TII. Connected the filter with the intake by wedging a silicone intercooler pipe into the filter and clamping the other end to the intake. Improvised but it worked great.

:icon_tup: I agree. Apexi let me return mine because on their website it said for all years FC. I would return it and buy something that fits.

But if you insist on making it work, weld those two pieces together.

I did something similar, I reapropriated a coupler from a cheap auto zone filter. Then I cut a plastic ring from a home depot coupler so I could tighten a clamp on the 3in silicon coupler I used to join this to the afm adapter.
