apexi PFC or rtek 2.1?
 

So I'm doing a turbo swap on my NA FC. Currently going to be a 6 port turbo.

Local craigslist has a Power FC available for 500 bucks, without the commander. Would it make sense to pick that up instead of the Rtek 2.1? 500$ vs 450 for the Rtek.

I do realize I need the wire harness thing, and a few other things...but in the long run I do plan on upgrading the turbo. Does it make sense to get the Power FC? Or will it be outdated and not used by the time I upgrade, forcing me to buy a new ECU then. :lol:

i'd go with the Power FC. If you're planning on extensive power upgrades, including the turbo, then you will hit a point where you are limited by the rtek 2.1

Try finding one on the F/S section of the forum. Might be able to pick up everything you need at once, as to buying it all seperately.

Also, are you sure the Power FC for sale in your area is for the 3rd gen RX7?

I've always had a fondness for Haltechs myself. But yea, PFC, just make sure it was used with an FC and not an FD

You can use the FD one but then you'll need to buy/make an adapter. FC ones are SUPER rare from what I've been told..

I have the FD3S Power FC with the S4 Banzai adapter kit. I really like it... I got a great deal on the PFC and Banzai kit from other forum members. Every so often, there are instances of people receiving bad PFC's. Be VERY careful that this doesn't happen to you.

I know this isn't one of your posted options, and is only a bit more expensive after buying the commander and adapter harness... But consider looking into the Haltech Sprint RE. There are so many more advantages to the Haltech. From the bit I have read, it is very easy to tune on your own, and there's so much support on this forum... Plus, it isn't the old 20+ year old wiring harness. Just something to think about.

yea true. To the OP, Banzai Racing makes an adapter.

im trying to avoid rewiring the car. not that i wouldnt want to, but i do not have the time!

it is an FD3S power FC. He said it was in his before he had to sell the car.

Unless you get the adapter to hook up the stock wiring to the PFC you will have to rewire at least the engine to get the car to fire up.Then again you would have a "newish" ecu and still have 20 year old wiring going to to the engine.
My suggestion is a Haltech (sprint RE or Plat 1000) and get C Ludwig (on forum) to make you a harness that is really Plug and play!
The harness would plug into the stock coils and then to some sensors such as coolant,Intake and TPS,,,go to the ECU..hook up the fuel wire,power wire and you are sailing!.
All you need is a tuning and the setup shouldn't have to be touched.

I don't know, the Sprint is missing a lot of features as far as Haltechs go. It has less inputs and outputs for example. The PS1000 has more capability but it's more expensive. The Power FC has its drawbacks but it can easily control air conditioning, boost pressure, and electric OMP (although that doesn't apply here).

The Power FC should be run with the Banzai Racing adapter kit. You will have to rewire the trailing coil as well, or you could send it off to Banzai Racing and they can do it for you. I would not recommend a custom harness to save a some money unless you are pretty experienced with this stuff.

The Power FC isn't particularly sensitive to electrical noise. If your current harness isn't trashed it will be fine. Since the PFC uses some of the original sensors you need to make sure they are in spec. You will need a MAP sensor and IAT sensor, either the OEM FD sensor or the Triumph sensor which has a faster response.

Our PFC adapter kit comes with all the sensors required to install the FD Power FC in the FC.
