apexi filters
 

i was curious as the cheapest place to buy these and what the people running them think of them. for a 91 gxl.

When you get the apexi filter make sure you have a shroud that prevents the intake from sucking all the hot air created by the engines heat. Do a search on the forum and you will find people who make them from scracth and sell them. I think aluminum is the way to go. A performance/Filtation test was done and said Apexi has a high score in both gain and filtation;however, I think its over priced for its fuction.

I also think it's over-priced, and I don't put much credence in well-meaning teenagers testing filters in thier house with a vacuum cleaner bag full of dirt. I think that the race-proven, million-mile K&N filters are better overall, but to each his own.

how much are the k&n and where can i find a good price on it?

Your local generic auto parts store or speed shop probably carries them. The price depends on which type and size you get. If you have a non-turbo car, the drop-in will work fine. Turbocharged cars are usually better off with a universal (aka cone) filter because the stock intake becomes a bit restrictive at higher airflow rates. Make sure that you take dimensions of your car before ordering the cone type, as you don't want to order one that is too long, too wide, or doesn't fit your AFM. Also note that you will need an additional "crankcase vent" filter for your air pump hose if you intend to keep the air pump functioning after converting to a cone type filter.
