APEXi BOV installed

well that was fun...

NOT

1st of all the IN-pipe it comes with is straight, as opposed to the stock one which has a little kink, i saw a pic of the greddy kit and theirs pretty much matches the stock, so that was a bitch to get in, also would've fit better if the BOV wasn't hitting the strut tower

2nd the vacuum hose that connects to the top of the stock bypass valve is supposed to connect to the top of the new BOV? is it just me or is there just no way for it to reach? luckily i had some extra hose lyin around from my last car

3rd - finally got it up and running, did a test run and a half, the half meaning the hose to the BAC popped out and we stalled right in front of my driveway, didn't even make it up, haha, so we had to push up the driveway and i said, "screw it i'll fix it in the morning," i searched and apparently some other guy had this problem, gonna get some hose clamps after work, can't believe it doesn't come with them stock

anyways enough bitching, for the time i actually got to drive it, it sounded really nice! so hopefully i'll get it all patched up by tonight

bigturbo 03-03-05 12:54 PM

that sounds pretty standard with most cars. Whenever switching from stock setup to aftermarket piping lines of any kind I make sure I have hose clamps that are adjustable(either by screw or 8 mm socket) to replace the generic metal ones from the factory. it makes everything easier the next time you need to take it off. But throw us some pics. i have the turbo xs and just used a rubber hose to connect it where the stock one used to be. Two small clamps and a new vacuum line and I was done.

left my camera at my pop's but i'll snap some soon, i just wish the "kit" that APEXi sold had these things, oh and forgot to mention my instructions were in japanese! haha

bigturbo 03-03-05 01:25 PM

ha ha yeah thats pretty funny. My kit was also in japanese. I know when I bought that kit for my evo VIII it came with most stuff but I had to buy a vacuum line and clamp and use a zip tie I had lying around. Even though it says bolt on sometimes there are trivial cheap things missing like that. Greddy though is really good about giving you even zip ties and a very good instruction manual.

It's the little things that seperates the best from the rest :rlaugh:
but where did you get your BOV from? I'm trying to get a apex'i twin chamber with the fitment kit since december bts so far no success..
and pictures would me nice.. so I'm going to see what I should expect..

I have one, and it wasn't that hard to install at all :p:

a word of advice is to not put the actual bov on untill after you have the pipe in place... so it doesn't hit anything. and I was using my old leaky amazingly hard cracked hose on mine for a while and it was fine. I did have to put the longer vaccum hose on it though.

hmm, there's a good tip, maybe i'll try installing it again, do you ever have problems with the adjuster ring moving around? maybe that's happening because of it hitting the strut tower, haha

hey shut up gary!

lol, yeah, that ring is gay. I just zip tied the part where it is seprated really tight so it can't really move anymore.

hahahhahahha

of course, we used zip ties to keep our fridge closed during a party! nice tip though for that ring

SonicRaT 03-08-05 05:32 AM

I'll never cease to be amazed at how huge those are!

bigturbo 03-08-05 08:11 AM

nice pics. Looking good. Thats similar to my setup, just a different bov

OneEyedJack 03-08-05 12:39 PM

I have one of those installed. Doesnt really hit anything, ive never had the ring move on its own :( have you tried just rotating the pipe a little bit to point it away from the strut tower? You should have a bit of play for it

id get a pic up for you but my car is covered in snow lol

eage8 03-08-05 01:50 PM

I would put a pic of mine up to but my car is a half an hour away in peices :(

Here's the way I installed mine.

http://img106.exs.cx/img106/1236/bov1xj.jpg

I had to use some clamps and some fuel line hose(big ID) to make the connection to the BAC but it's worked very well so far.

hey, that's also a good idea, i got some more hose lyin around but not sure if it'll fit, i can't rotate the pipe at all in the direction it's facing right now because #1, it's hitting the strut tower and #2 it's right against that other thing behind it (pardon my ignorance), so it's pretty much locked in that position

classicauto 03-08-05 03:39 PM

you should fix that though, itll damage if not break the BOV in time...
if you don't believe me turn the car on with the hood open, grab the
throttle cable and rev it up a few times hard, you'll see the motor go from one side to the other with no consideration for the fragile piece of turboabilia

turboII joop 03-11-05 01:45 AM

okay.. thanks for the pictures.. mine arrived yesterday so I'm going to install it tomorow..

turboII joop 03-12-05 10:30 AM

rightt... okay... I have installed mine. but not how it supposed to be. because the ABS pump is in the way.. so I rotated the hotpipe. and then the hose of the bac was a pain to install.. the hose I had was too stiff so I had to cut it and put in a elbow of a central heating system..
and now I have a problem.. the car idles good.. it revs good.. there is boost.. and according to the standard boostmeter it is OK.. but when in gear holding it around 3 k rpm it backfires a lot.. accelerating and decelerating no backfires.. the BOV is doing his job..
what did I do wrong?..

@digi7ech do you have a picture of your BAC hose?.. and you don't have ABS so why did you install your BOV this way?

ps.. why did they come with such a lousy fitment kit.. you pay a lot for it and it doesn't even fit right.. and.. the japanese install guide.. wtf :(

Kingsfan 03-12-05 04:15 PM

well about paying a lot...i got the APEXi kit cause it was the cheapest, maybe i should've spent more and got the greddy

Xbladr 08-17-05 10:04 PM

I installed mine tonight and custom rigged up my own kit because I had originally bought this bov for a civic with civic charge piping. I will post up some pics tomorrow
