Anyone driving W/O power steering

God, maybe I need to build more mucle, but my cars (both Rx7s) have the steering pump eliminated, I am wrenching on the steering wheel. Anyone running this way? Preference? I have never tried one Rx7 with power steering.

In the current state, I don't have good control W/O the power assist. Once I got the car tuned up, I'd like to go auto-X, please tell me your experience regarding the steering while I am building more muscles and getting used to the car.

yah I had p/s in my '87 Sport, thats one model with the fastest ratio rack too, so without p/s hooked up and the lines just run to a catchcan, it was kinda hard to turn, lotsof effort, but the response was quick.

I swapped in a manual rack and its a little easier to turn and has better feedback/feel but it sure isnt nearly as quick as the p/s rack.

running the smaller diameter MoMo steering wheel added effort to the steering also.

you can change your alignment (toe) a little to make the front easier to turn quickly. I think you'd want more toe out?

if you remoce p/s and cap some or all of the lines that will add effort too... make sure to leave the ends of the lines uncapped.

If the lines are looped it'll be about the same as having them go into a catch can. Better yet is to remove the inner seal as I did and wrote about in the 2nd gen archives.

I really like it, I think it's a lot better than with the power steering. I've autocrossed and track driven the car before and after and I like it much better after, but I've got relatively narrow tires compared to Owen and they're also not as sticky. I've also got the middle ratio rack.

I have capped the p/s lines. Its not necessarily difficult to steer. The steering wheel suffers more than I do though.

I've been driving mine for about 8 months with no power steering (cause there's a leak somewhere) and haven't had much problems. I have to do a lot of 3 point turns and parallel parking, but after while you get used to it. I even have the small ratio rack.
