anyone using the oldschool hks gauges?
 

i searched and found this thread but that color code didnt make the gauge read right. i dont think im doing something right.

im having a hard time getting the gauge to read right... im not sure if im hooking the wires up right.

please let me know if you know how to wire up the 60mm boost gauge boost sensor wires.

there are 3 of them. yellow, blue, and green. dunno what goes to what.

well i dont have the diagram.

i ment the stuff on the back of the gauge is written in poo.

there is ingrish on there too.


one post says 5v
one post says IN

the others are the normal batt, ign, earth, lights. this part works and is hooked up.

the boost sensor has 3 wires.... blue green and yellow. but there are only 2 posts to hook stuff up to on the gauge. i tried a few combos but it either made the gauge bottom out to the vac side or bottom out to the boost side of the gauge.

its these 3 wires i dunno what to do with.

Black = ground
Red = switched hot
Orange = unswitched hot
Yellow = backlight hot

...and for the sensor:

Blue = IN (signal)
Green = G (ground)
Yellow = 5V (out)

The three wires are for the MAP sensor.
It's a 5V-ref sensor, so those three wires are for that.
You do NOT ground the green wire - it's the ground for the MAP sensor.

Do you even have the MAP sensor?

yes. i do... i was told to try to ground the gren wire for the map right where the map is mounted.

is that what im supposed to do?

what do you mean by dont ground the ground wire? :) what should i do with the green wire then?

so i thought about this more... and if i cant ground the ground... then why is it called a ground.

update.

i tried wiring up the three sensor wires all kinds of different ways.

im pretty sure the blue and yellow wires go where that color code says to put them.

The green wire is the one wire thats kincking my ass. If i ground it... it pegs the gauge off the bottom of the vac side. and if i hook it to 12v it pegs the gauge off the boost side.
i tried just not hooking it up.... and the guage sits at 18" vaccume... when the power is applyed and the engine is not running. It should zero... but then again the "ground wire" is not hooked up.

what do i do with this wire. i cant find anything online, i even called hks..... they was to post mail me the wiring diagram for $5.

it sounds like you have the wrong pressure sensor for your gauge. the gauge you have is most likely a really old one, from your descriptions of the 2 posts on the back of the gauge... the newer version of the electronic gauge had harness couplers... no need for splicing... but in the case of splicing, it does consist of 3 wires. the old gauge only had a 2 wire pressure sensor i believe...

the newer sensor will not work with the old boost gauge. you are gonna have to look real hard for that sensor... it has been discontinued for about 10 years now if the gauge you have is what i can remember it to be. post a pic of the face, the back, and the harness. can probably give you a difinitive answer with the images.
