anyone throw flames with a high flow cat
more info plz :D
|
I used too throw flames with my stock exhuast.. but I did have a broken TPS at the time.
|
i cant throw flames with hollowed out cats...i dont know what the dealio is. Im not too worried about it because im more interested in practicallity but it would be nice to see a few flames now and then.
|
unplug your tps garenteed flames, but yuor performance will suck as you will be running pig rich.. you will aslo get ~10mpg
|
If I reversed my map on my S-AFC II would I be able to spit a little fire? I'm just wondering, because I'd like to know if I can pop a few flames for friends.
|
Spit fire WITH cats?!
Something must be very wrong with the cats! Am I wrong? A bit of info here? :) |
its possible to run rich with a cat, right? "rich" means excess fuel. there's plenty of air. the exhaust is hot. fuel+air+heat = flame. seems to make sense.
yes, something is wrong. running rich is a problem. |
with the split air pipe running to hollowed cats you should be throwing flames every once in a while I would think

I imagine that would kill your cat very, very quickly (running that rich).
|
Oh, that's very true...and considering how much cats cost...
|
no one ever said how big of flames. i'm just making the point that cars run rich, especially ones with lower compression or certain mods (depending on who's engine and what mods). i also added "running rich is a problem."
turn of a knob, huh? wow, every car in america should have one of these magic knobs. like i said, depends on the flame. no one ever specified "how big" or "how rich." the response was to someone with cats (hollow/factory/or replaced?). hollow shouldnt be much of a problem if you're runnin rich enough that the cat doesnt catch a good majority of the HCs. a stock cat, well, is probably dead by now and should be replaced as its hurting performance greatly. and yes, cats are expensive, so why are people punching them? get a pipe. it has a better shape to it than a punched cat. |
Yeh, but they're LOUDER :D
|
as long as you're joking. if loudness had to do with speed, i run duals out the side of my car with the shortest straight pipe possible (and maybe glasspacks!). i like some peacefulness to my exhaust. if my car sounded F1, but quieter, i'd be happy. i dont need an F15 on wheels.
|
I can't truely follow what you ment to say there.
What do you mean, as long as I am joking? A catalytic converter will make the exhaust quieter then a streightpipe. Even a hollow one. |
i meant 'i hope youre joking about just wanting your exhaust louder.' for the simple fact that its (punching cats) supposed to be a performance mod, but really isnt. and as we all know, noise does not equal power. i'm not saying more power wont always make more noise, just that "noise level does not equal more power."
oh yes, a cat may keep the sound down, but isnt the ideal setup for power. i was making the point that a straight pipe is better than a punched cat. i just so happen to also like my car to be driveable and not overly irratating. |
Doing a TB mod can help with flames, instead of the TB slowly closing when you shift (or left of the gas for whatever reason) it'll snap shut dumping fuel into the engine without burning it. Good buy gasoline, hello flames :D
|
thats been argued before, too. i dont completely understand why, but NZConvertible i believe explained it. if i had to take a stab at why, i would say that its because your car's computer works quickly (hell, think how fast it must think to spark precisely at 8kRPM). it reads quickly that there's no air to burn and stops feeding the car gas as soon as possible. *just my guess*
and its not the TB mod (per se), its removing the dashpot which happens to be part of the typical "throttle body mod." |

Right! :bigthumb: |

Only the first generation of S-AFC had knobs. The rest were all buttons, I belive. :)
Seriously though, you should find out WHY you're running so rich before you just turn the SAFC. If you've change the fuel pump, the injectors, or messed with the car some other way, thats fine. But if it is a bad sensor or some other problem, you may really want to foucus on that first. |
It's still a dial/knob to adjust the settings when you go into your fuel map. I'm not currently running rich, and as far as I could tell I wasn't, even before I toyed with the S-AFC II.
|
is it legale to run a car in florida or any other state "besides californa" for that mater with out a cat ?
|
I get little blue flames and I have a cat. You can only usually see them inside the muffler, but sometimes they're a few inches long.
|
omg do not unplug your TPS just to see if you can shoot flames. you all are retards
