Anyone know which wires are for the inst cluster Clock?
 

My digital clock in the dash instrument warning cluster has a mind of its own! it comes on and off when I hit bumps and it loses time. I took the cluster out and wiggles the wires and it came on and went back out as I was putting it back in.
Can anyone tell me which wire it is that powers it so I can tighten the pin or re wire it to a better source?

I'd guess you have a broken trace on one of the circuit boards. Icemark would know.

The problem is the solder joints in the idiot cluster... this is addressed in the FAQ. Resolder it and it will work, it's not a problem with the wires from the chassis.

OK just take it apart and resolder the loose one?

i kind of have the same problem ... all of the wires that go from the drivers side clip (by the fuse box) are FRIED and MELTED, meaning no stereo and no idiot lights.... anyone have this cluster of wires or know where i can get them?

wasnt there a diagram that shows the solder points that needed to be fixed ..?
i checked out mazda marks site, but didnt see it there ...

im almost positive that someone posted a diagram or something like that?

I tried to take it out and twist it to make the wire bundle tighter. It worked for a few days but now it blinks off again. I'll search for the solder fix and see if I can find it.

Maybe some warm work I can do indoors today :)

Attached are two jpgs of the wiring for the clock. As you can see, it's the RB wire or Red with a Black stripe wire. Just find where it attaches to the board and reheat the solder joint for a quick fix OR get a solder wick and remove the old solder and apply new solder. I reheated mine several years ago and it still works. It had the usual symptoms that you mentioned.

EDIT: ooops, do the other three wires also. LR (blue/red), LB (blue/black) and the ground B (black).

if you disassemble the warning cluster you will find about 5-6 cold solder joints at the back of the connector pin connection to the circuit board, resolder those and it will take care of your problem. i have one in front of me already repaired if you want it just pay the $13 i paid for it plus shipping.

Take it apart, resolder the whole darn thing, and everything will be fixed. I've done this to several clusters, they've all done the same thing, and they all work perfectly now that they're fixed.

Thanks for the help with this! I resoldered all the connecter joints on the circut board after I sucked out the old stuff. They were broken in little half moon breaks in the solder.
Everything now works as advertized!

have you not been in enuf 7s to know this is a trademark and makes our cars special ....

My first RX-7 was an 80 model that had a clock with the minute and hour hand (Non-digital).
Everything about the 1986 GXL model is an upgrade for me :)
