Anyone Have a factory CD/Tape combo player?

Hi, the tape/CD combo player in my 90 TII wont play a tape, and there is a tape stuck in it. If you hit eject, the tape will lift up, but it cant push it out. It just goes back down. I want to get the tape out, and try to fix the tape deck. It looks like a huge pain in the ass to take the stereo apart because the CD player is on top, so it would have to be thoroughly taken apart to get to the tape deck. Anyone ever tried to fix one of these? Im trying to get everything in my car working perfect so I dont want to get an aftermarket deck.

Or if anyone has a tape/cd combo that you want to get rid of, let me know. I would like it dead or alive. If its dead, I could probably use the parts. (yes, i posted in the classifieds)

Slip a credit card under it as soon as it lifts up, that will help it slide out. If that doesn't work, you can either try to slip a screwdriver under it and pry it out when it lifts, or take apart the radio to see what it's getting caught on.

Good idea with the credit card. I will give that a shot. I tried to clamp onto the tape with some little needle nose pliers, but I coudlnt get a grip on it. All i managed to do was booger up the plastic on the front of the radio...

Throw that POS in the trash.
Almost any aftermarket deck is going to perform better.
Even a replacement stock OEM unit is a waste of time.

It really sounds like the tape was eaten.
If it was, the tape cannot be recovered. :(

Hi Ted, Im not going for sound quality. Im going for STOCK look. Im trying to make my car look as "brand new" as possible. I have a few aftermarket cd players laying around, but I just dont want to get rid of the factory.

Gut the faceplate and use some velcro to keep it in place! :D
Superior sound of the aftermarket unit but looks like stock!

i have the same issue with my vert.. i wanna keep the factory radio since its a vert so that no one will wanna steal that piece of poop.. but i had already thought of guttin the radio and using the faceplate as a decoy when i park it.. we did that on my bro's Landcruiser.. seems to be the best way to go if you wanna keep it low pro..

haha yea why exactly do you want a stock unit

its ugly and a waste of money i'd rather have no unit than keep the stock one

well my stock one didnt work when i got it but thats besides the point
