anyone get bad rebuilds from BNR?

Sorry my title is like that, but I am trying to message and talk to BNR turbos and I am getting a response to my questions, but none answering my main question,"If the core I send you is not rebiuldable, these are 20 plus year old turbos, what will happen? Will I have to supply a rebuildable core, or will you supply one, price?"

These turbos are old, and I have been through 3 s5 turbos already with little to a lot of turbo smoking issues, and I am praying either a bnr turbo would be good, or dreading spending the time and money to fabricate a whole new turbo upgrade for the 300whp I would like to achieve.

I don't mean to put bnr on the spot. I hear a ton of good things about them and I am sure the guy is really busy, but I am trying to make a decision where either I will be spending around $900 for a rebuilt, upgraded stock turbo, which is not cheap!

I'm not sure BNR would supply you with a CHRA if yours was not rebuildable, but even with the age of the parts, I've had good luck with the 3 turbos I've had. I would expect that most of the time smoking is due to seal wear rather than the housing.

call them and ask.

usually Bryan will work with what you have unless the turbine housing is severely cracked and all the way through the manifold. he will still rework a manifold with visible cracks.

anything outside of that, it really would most likely depend if the parts are being upgraded/replaced or not.

I haven't seen any visible cracks, maybe I didn't look hard enough. I've had a few turbos, stock. rebuilt 2 of them with still oil burning issues. I tried contacting brian, calling. I am sure he is busy, I don't blame him. lMy only questioning is on his website he needs a core, these turbos are really old. I emailed him and he told me he needs it. I also asked him if my core was not rebuildable, if he would send me good one, they do have a 1 year warranty!

But after a while I did have to put a few points together. I do not blame bnr for any of this!!!!
1)turbos take a lot of abuse/heat/boost. Wear and tear is a lot
2)I am asking for a s5 t2 stock turbo to be rebuilt, which is an 89-91. it's almost 2014!
3)the price he says on the website is a great deal, bolt on replacement, anywhere from 200-400whp!

I was just hoping for my question to be answered from him,"what would happen if my core that I sent you was not rebuildable?" That can happen from more than a cracked housing. I purchased my turbo 2 in 2008?? I dealt with many used turbos stock and hybrid. My friend that started fc chasis before me told me it was hard to find a good s5 turbo back then.... and now!. I'm going to do a full turbo upgrade, but only looking for 300-340whp. I see all these guys with 400+hp, fml

/\This.

When I was dabbling in Rtek and such,I went to a Stage 3 BNR.
I bought a S5 Turbo on forum,in the States and then had the seller ship to Bryan at BNR.
He rebuilt the Turbo then sent it to me in Canada.

I has questions,so I thought WTF and called Bryan and got into some really wild conversations..lol!..telling me about Wheelchair guys in Drag cars doing 9 second runs!.I salute that!
He was Very helpful and frankly I wish that there were more guys that would actually just give you the straight up talk like he did.

Now,the price is worth the Goal.
If you go to an aftermarket Turbo you are looking at a Manifold,wastegate,downpipe...all extra stuff that you would not need if you bought a Slap on and go BNR.
I got 2k in my turbo,wastegate,downpipe,manifold..then I had to buy Bigger injectors,fuel management system..Cost?.another 2k.
So,That hybrid turbo?..It's looking good now.huh?

if your core is not rebuildable he will tell you and give you options. if your turbo is junk i hightly doubt he's going to replace it with a good core for free.
