Anyone ever do a HI-6 or any other ignition box on there n/a?

After reading a how-to at fc3s, i was thinking about getting a aftermarket ignition for my n/a 90. Yes...Yes...Yes, i know the stock ignition is pretty good. But, i want some serious ignition power.

My question is, how much power on the dyno/butt dyno give you?

What box did you go for and what reasons?

I was thinking about getting either a MSD 6A or a HI-6. Probably the HI-6.

Thanks, CJ

i recommend the hi-6. its cheaper than the other ones and it does pretty much the same thing. its pretty easy to install too. the butt dyno feels like it helped out in the lower rpms the most. b/c its got the multiple sparks in lower rpms. revs real smooth

I installed an MSD 6A in my 89 GTUs last year. It worked okay, I suppose. It idled a little smoother, throttle response was a bit more crisp, and so forth. Absolutely no detectable difference on the ol' butt dyno. Then it died when a wrench slipped out of my hand while on the batt+ and arced to the MSD. I removed the MSD and have not missed it one bit.

The stock ignition is really amazingly good, I have discovered. CD ignition upgrades only seem to provide a very marginal improvement on non-performance characteristics. What I have been hearing from certain people (Bill Burnham comes to mind) is that there is a bigger potential gain from upgrading the coils (faster 'rise' time) than adding a CD box. I can also think of a dozen other things I'd upgrade before going back to a CD ignition.

Does anyone have the Jacobs Rotary Pro Pak? As I understand, it is a full rotary ignition computer.

Butt dyno....no noticable gain. But the throttle response was crisper, especially at lower rpm's. Another thing...my gas mileage went from 19 mpg consistently, to 22-23 mpg. I think that alone is worth the ~$130 I paid for the Crane Hi-6.

Where did you get it for ~130$? The cheapest I've found was like 165$ or so..
