Maybe some others will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong but I think most people when they upgrade their intercooler move to a front mount. There may be a few still using it or an upgraded version with a meth/water injection setup. Years ago there was an upgraded TMIC available but I'm not so sure anymore since FMIC are so popular.

Honestly I don't know why anyone chasing less than 400HP would bother to change the OEM TMIC. I'm running a consistent 360RWHP at just under 15psi boost with the OEM S5T2 TMIC, and have zero issues with high intake air temps (IAT). And yes, I do log data so I have a solid baseline to measure from - fast reacting IAT sensor located in the TB elbow (stock location) and IATs trend about 20~30*F above whatever the ambient air temp is at the time, as long as the car is moving and is not allowed to sit still and heat soak. Even after a heat soak condition (e.g., get stuck in traffic on a hot day, or shut the car down hot and drive off say 20 minutes later), the IATs drop down within a few minutes of low load driving.

Are you still using the stock TMIC? Also I think it was just assumed that when making more than stock power levels you need to ditch it. It sounds like that is not the case. I just remember years ago people talking about it being crappy and saying go to a FMIC. I have noticed more recently talk about the FMIC having it's own set of problems. Mainly to do with coolant temps.

^Exactly. When you stick a thick core FMIC in front of the radiator & oil cooler, what do you think happens to the cold air flow into those heat exchangers?

I'm using the stock S5T2 TMIC, with the factory hood & its functional scoop. As long as the car is moving, it works very well - Mazda did a great job engineering that thing.

That sounds very similar to my setup - same exact turbo, but I have a little more injector (ID1000's in all 4 holes) and it sounds like I may have a bit more porting going on - used the largest street port templates for intake & exhaust that Pineapple has available. What are you using for engine management? I'm running an AEM Infinity.

What are you using to control the added fueling?

I am still running a stock TMIC for now, but i dont intend to forever. Running the stock TMIC with stock turbo at 12psi i end up on long pulls hitting 150*+ IATs in the North Carolina summers.
