any ideas on new mods? 87 base non turbo
i have a few ideas for some mods, however any input would be appreciated.
1. bolt on turbo. 2. header 3. custom bent high flow exhaust 4. new ignition MSD 5. new plugs and wires 6. cold air intake 7 weight reduction 8 possibly a 50-75 shot of nitrous these are just a few ideas i had like i said. thanks |
May I ask why? If you wanted a performance car, why didn't you buy one in the first place? Its cheaper and less time consuming to buy a TII if you want a turbo rotary powered vehicle than to convert a na.
If it were me, I'd just drive the car and enjoy it for what it is and save your money for a real performance vehicle such as a 3rd gen rex. |
well, maybe i wanted to preform these upgrades because i wanted to say that I did the work and not the factory. and to swap the turbo i would have to replace the entire drivetrain and transmission. plus there are no TII here nor are there any single turbo. thanks for the positive input.

1. bolt on turbo.
you could do it.. you CAN get a jspec for about $1000, if you wanted to.. you dont need to change the transmission and rear end, but I dont recommend it 2. header go for it 3. custom bent high flow exhaust this with a header will be very loud 4. new ignition MSD MSD is actoually crappier than the stock ignition 5. new plugs and wires you should get these anyways 6. cold air intake Make this one your first mod 7 weight reduction remove your A/C compressor, lines, and condensor, Take out the power steeting, air pump, remove the rats nest, without a cat you'll have to remove the 5th and 6th port acutators and wire them open 8 possibly a 50-75 shot of nitrous NO! |
or tell the turbo nazis to go blow off themselves..... get suspension and lighten the car up and go have fun on track days and country roads... all rx7 are performance cars ..... turbos are fast performance cars........and where is the f@#* you icon for homebrewers third gen comment.. i know my car will kill at least the stock third gen....what an ass...... if seconds gens arent all that to you stay the hell out of the second gen section loser...

With the stock mufflers (or similar) the 5/6 ports will open with gutted cats. But not until about 5.5k rpm. I've tested it with a pressure guage.

yeah homebrewers a fuckhat. anyway. thanks guys. i will write more on the follow up or the mods.

NO! You obviously have some bad experience with nitrous, however nitrous is a cost worthy mod for a normally aspirated RX-7. Experience speaks for itself, not rule of thumb, talk of the town, or assumptions. Of course do a full 60k tuneup...blah blah blah...its been said a million times. 1. You could do it, its very possible, but what are your goals for the car? 2. The Racing Beat headers offer a noticable power gain over stock, and don't cost too much. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda2.htm 3. Put a resonator in there somewhere unless you like to be heard a mile away. 4. New MSD ignition. You want to replace the stock ignition? You could add an MSD 6A box to your leading coil. Maybe a couple of hp, but more mpg on the highway. 5. I agree with CompuBob, these should already be done. NGK. 6. Cold air intake...maybe a cone filter with a heat resistant cold air box. For a TRUE cold air intake, you MIGHT ahve to cut a hole somewhere. 7. Weight redution is a definite plus. Improved stopping distance, improved acceleration, improved handling, better power to weight ratio. 8. Nitrous is the best bang-for-your-buck performance mod (excluding a tuneup). TUNE IT RIGHT!!! Oh yeah, this guy knows what hes talkign about...Sean Cathcart AKA scathcart. |

hahahaha, this is funny, bring any of your TII's against my n/a any day, it might not win in a straight line, but thats it. you should be more informative and smart and said, if you want a car to drive fast in a straight line get a TII so you can make stupid amounts of power and go fast in 1/4 mile straight drag races.
asshat was lame and people started making fun of people using it, so fuckhat is a bit better i guess, who knows |
How much money are you willing to spend???

-Ted Ha Ha Ha Teds favorite response! My favorite mod: weight reduction. Its FREE! If you stick to it eventually you can take enough out to feel an improvement in accel, braking, handling, etc. Not a huge improvement, but decent. After that, intake and exhaust have the best cost:improvement ratio. My $.02. |
