Did I say Inexpensive was 500??
NO!
800 is inexpensive compared to 2K + for a hood shipped from Japan.
All I want is someone to actually produce one that looks good and is well built. I am tired of hearing the pipe dreams
PRODUCE THE DAMN PARTS AND PEOPLE WILL BUY.

Part of the risk of doing business is R&D costs and Tooling costs. I would love for people to send me money so I can buy a 3 axis CNC mill to start making parts but its not going to happen, is it?

This makes the upteenth CF Pipe dream thread . I hope he makes it, I really do. I hope you start making parts, really. But handle like a business man instead of a lemonade stand. Hell you need production space, I'm 2 hours away, I have multiple garages, Heated and Air conditioned come up here and build your molds. JUST DO SOMETHING INSTEAD OF TALK!

banzaitoyota 07-30-02 12:53 PM

Sorry for the thread HIJACK.

someone do something please! Also Fitting is an issue, I dont want to end up with something that fits like *Caugh Caugh* if you know what I mean.

banzaitoyota 07-30-02 01:16 PM

I was not singling out MAZDASPEEDS CF business in thes thread.
We have well documneted delivery problems with Demonspeed, We have had a thread in the past month for CF Mirrors; where are those?

I just want some parts that I can order and not have to wonder if someone has their mommy's permission to use the garage to make some parts after they have saved their allowance to buy materials

TurboSmoke 07-30-02 03:48 PM

ummm guys we have a group buy on this as well carbon fiber TII hoods here read this post

KenshinFC 07-30-02 03:51 PM

Wow.. whats with all the cynicism. I dropped off my T2 hood at my friend's shop in Blossom Hill yesterday. I'm hoping to stop by later tonight to see his progress on making a mold. By the looks of it, the price may be between $700-900 for a CF T2 hood. N/A CF hoods would be cheaper cuz they're easier to fabricate and inverted hoods is an issue. What do they look like?

TurboSmoke 07-30-02 04:21 PM

your not getting any from me i was just saying we need more people in on the deal so we can get them. they are comming in from japan. oh inverted means that the scoop instead of comming up it goes down here i got a pic. see the hood thats what it looks like

gold87na 07-30-02 04:33 PM

CF is not that strong.. but it's lighter then aluminum and won't have all that grounding problems like the aluminum ( for those that don't know: if you ground a aluminum hood your paint may start falling off from corrosion ) So all good by me.. though i would never buy one..

BDoty311 07-30-02 05:03 PM

Carbon Fiber is LIGHT because it is STRONG as all hell. Since its stronger than alluminum then you can make it thinner, and lighter, with the same strength of alluminum.

E6KT2 07-30-02 07:18 PM

CF is not that strong

That deserves two. :D

Unfortunately, Mazdaspeed7 is right about the cost. A $500US CF hood is crap. I would never bolt it to my car. It takes a little extra to make on worth a crap and make it worth the money. A really well made CF hood could be shipped with just cardboard taped to the edges because it would be difficult to destroy.

banzaitoyota 07-30-02 07:44 PM

If you want to see how a hood should be shipped, IMHO!, go find a goodmark ad for a GM muscle car hood. They show their hood in a proper fitting box with styrofoam protection of the edges. CF finishes can be scratched with improper handling!

peacekeeper 07-30-02 08:07 PM

That inverted hood looks bad ass man I would pay hella money for that biotch. Around here in Austin those hoods are refered to as reverse induction even though they don't seem like they will induce anything to me beside the vomit of hot air from the engine bay. I would definately buy that hood, and/or a TII one as well. :)
If we did a group buy with you can we get your (When there is a set price) Hood for cheaper than your set price for personal buy would be? I would like that.

keoki-san 07-30-02 10:31 PM

Well i say 500 bucks is cheap but you dont ALWAYS get what you paided for. my classmate got a carbon fiber hood for his civic for 400 bucks and it fits perfectly. thought that might be because the market is bigger.

keoki-san 07-30-02 10:50 PM

i would buy one. but only if i can get carbon fiber light covers. i mean look at the mr2. it looks stupid with a carbon hood. looks aren't everything. but sence most of the TIIs i see are raged the hell out and sound/look/perform like crap i feel like i have to represent. so if you can get carbon fiber light covers i'm in

KenshinFC 07-30-02 11:20 PM

keoki-san, I was thinking about CF light covers also. I'll see what I can do.

peacekeeper, must we try to get a groupbuy in everything?

Now, his shop isn't a large one and he's ONLY taking on this project because he's my close friend and I was willing to front and give him money to make a mold and hood for me. My hood is something he's doing and make after work hours at his shop. Spare time basically. He's not planning on becoming a full-time distributor for FC CF hoods, just doing this out of a favor for me and see if the market is there. I know the market is there, but I really don't believe he can mass manufacture CF hoods for FCs YET. Making one hood is long enough (for those who have experience working with CF or fiberglass). Fiberglass is a bitch to work on already.

I'll try my best and see what he can do. I agree with everyone that I don't like when people just post, come up with the idea, and don't do shit about it. I'm being honest with you guys cuz you're my RX7 buddies and I'm not gonna beat around the bush with you.

crasher2 07-30-02 11:22 PM

do know how many times this has come up and everytime it is going to happen it never does. even I tryed to have someone make a cf hood. I will belive it when I see it and know the price. I wish you the best of luck

banzaitoyota 07-31-02 04:57 AM

Thanks for the reply!!! Not trying to bash your idea with all my posts just being realistic after having our chains jerked around for sooooo long. John

If yours turns out nice let us know please

rotaryextreme 07-31-02 05:51 AM

how about this one?

http://www.rotaryextreme.com/2ndgen/2ndgenkshood1.jpg

How do you guys like this one? If there is enough interest, I will make it in carbon fiber. If not enough interest, there is just going to be a fiberglass version.

Right now I am still trying to fulfill all the back order on the carbon fiber Scoot replica hoods for the 3rd gen. So if you guys want carbon fiber, it's going to take sometime to finish. But fiberglass should be done faster.

Price should be about $600 for the fiberglass and $850 for the carbon fiber. There are going to be two kinds of scoops, one inveted and one like the stock TII. So if you switch to a front mount IC, you don't need to buy the whole hood again. You just need to buy another scoop. The hood will come with only one kind of scoop (either inverted or TII type). If you want to buy both, it's going to be around $150 more for the other one.

Mr Haung,
Could you post your TII style pic as well please? so we can see what they both look like.
thanks,
