Another seat belt recall thread
Ok so this morning I went out to drive my car to work and sure enough the seat belt shoulder portion stopped halfway up the track and won't move. Now being an avid reader of as many threads as I can handle, I knew that Mazda had a lifetime warranty on the automatic seat belts from 89-91. I called Mazda customer service and they told me that indeed there is a lifetime warranty on the automatic shoulder harness portion of the belts. I called my local Mazda dealer and they started the run around, but this time they had a good reason for the run around. They told me that the repair was done Feb 17 1997 and was a closed recall, and that the warranty on that repair was for 60 months or 60,000 miles. They wanted to know who I had talked to at Mazda customer service so they could find out what the deal was. I told the person at the dealership that I would call Mazda customer service again, and he let me know that they were working with me and they wanted to do everything they could to make sure the situation was taken care of (He said it all with panic in his voice). Their database of dealer letters only went back to 1999 and so they did not know that this was a lifetime warranty kind of situation. Once Mazda talked to the dealership service manager they found out they did not know the facts and Mazda customer service faxed them a copy of the recall. The recall number is 68702 and in paragraph 5 it tells about the lifetime warranty this is only for 89-91 though so no one with an s4 get excited. Now my dealership is totally ready to fix the seat belt for free, which is very nice to hear. So if anyone else has any issue with the dealer not knowing what your talking about this may be the situation, OR they are just being dicks and need a call from Mazda.
