annoying beep!!

the FAQ stated:
5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal: Steering sensor is mis-aligned or failed or steering wheel has been improperly installed.

has anyone ever encountered this and know how to fix it!? or just make it stop or something? previous owner of the car installed a aftermarket steering wheel...

You need to take off the aftermarket wheel and move it a couple splines untill it is lined back up correctly.

bboyclo 05-05-08 09:28 PM

how do i know when it is?

JSmith0101 05-05-08 09:41 PM

There are little arrows on the hub, if memory serves me right.

oh and when I start driving my steering wheel is turned at about 2o'clock

Roarke 05-15-08 02:34 AM

You have this too? I was wondering why my car was beeping!
I can't believe its the steering wheel...
I have the stock one, but the people who owned the car last did a bunch of stuff bad to it - like cut the springs, apparently move the steering wheel, replace the gauges with an automatic dash panel and add two non-working after market gauges. They even went as far to put 1 locking lug nut on the car, and have different brands of tires on the right and left.
I'm very proud that I've been able to fix all this, now the beeping!
I hope you get your aftermarket fixed, and I'll post again if I learn anything. I'm going to go take my steering wheel off and see if I can move it a spline or something.

OK, I've read some misinformation above, so to clear things up...

The back of the steering wheel hub should have two holes. The two tabs that stick out of the moving portion of the steering angle sensor go in those. My aftermarket hub has it, make sure yours does too. Put the steering wheel in, drive straight ahead. Take out the wheel, align the sensor with arrows at 9 o'clock, then place steering wheel back, so that the hub goes in aligned with the sensor.

There was a thread just last week. Search advanced, use my name as poster, as I posted in that one. GL.

Yo mahn as of now my steering wheel is straight and no beeping when I test drove it...but the real test will come later driving to work hopefully everything turns out good, I'll post what happens when I get there:icon_tup:

bboyclo 05-15-08 05:22 PM

UPDATE!!! well the steering wheel is straight BUT the beeping is still there....driving locally its fine but everytime I go on the freeway it starts beeping again until I get off which is really weird. I gave up on this problem since no1 can provide me an answer...I'm taking my car in the shop unless I get more post of ideas on how to fix this problem

I finally understood and got mine fixed. I don't see the holes in your aftermarket hub.
What it needs to do is turn the crank angle sensor the appropriate amounts. Do your blinkers click off correctly?
I suppose I havn't been on the freeway yet...
But mines fixed I think.
I got a stock wheel if you want it - but aftermarkets are probably cooler :P

Any luck?

First, your bumps have been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen technical section.

2nd, is it still 5 beeps and a pause, or now is it 3 beeps or 1 beep?

3rd, if it is 5 beeps, does your ebay aftermarket steering wheel hub have the spot for the two plastic tabs to line up in?

If it does not, throw it away as the hub is the wrong hub for the car.

This is not rocket science. This is very very very simple. The two tabs must go through the hub so that they turn when you turn the wheel. If you used a crappy ass hub that doesn't have the holes, or you bolted the hub on without lining up the tabs with the holes that should be there (if you have the correct wheel/hub) then it should work fine.

But if you busted the car all up trying to put on your ebay steering wheel and not paying attention, then you can go buy a new steering position sensor bushing.

Not getting why this question keeps coming up twice a week. Is everyone just changing the wheel and not caring or just not paying attention?
