they are much lighter but harder to fix if they get dented

Eh.. I wouldn't get a steel hood ever. They're a lot heavier then aluminum ones.

They really arent that much different. I think its just like 20-30 pounds lighter. Given, thats like half the weight, but its not a whole lot until you get into serious lightening.

so much lighter that u will be able to notice a BIG difference when u lift the hood. when i carried my t2 hood (off the car) it felt like less than 10lbs.

JWteknix 02-03-07 05:05 PM

aluminums worth a pretty penny nowa days its like 60somthing cent a lb

From the sound of it aluminum hoods are an improvement, if not very niticeable at first, i think i still would like to get one, cause my steel hood is tweaked and i would rather replace it with an upgrade, and carbon fiber is a bit to expensive right now

i too noticed my friends turbo II hood atleast felt litghter to lift..

anybody have a really good idea as too the weight of an aluminum hood, im curious how much it would be too ship one??

i figure an aluminum convertible hood balanced out with maybe a lexan back glass hatch???

i know they make lexan sun roofs but what about an entire hatch? that would be a huge weight savings i think

I dunno if it me but I think the n/a aluminum hood is a tad bit lighter than the T2 hood. I would say the N/A convertible is like 25-30lbs. Having it shipped to you, begin a oversize item, I got a quote a from Texas to Florida $150 shipping
They do make lexan hatches and yes its a huge amount of weight shaved off because I know it takes two people to remove the hatch. IMO I wouldn't do it because it throws off the balance of the car in the rear. Good Luck with the 7!!
