Aluminum Transmission shield for our FC's?!

This Is a first I am hearing of this...

Does anyone have details on this?

Wankel7 07-12-05 11:11 PM

Yeah, I have seen them on here...

Anybody got a stock mazda part number for it?

Any pics? What is this? Like another underpan like the FDs have under the tranny?

88 SE 07-13-05 12:48 AM

Mine has a bunch of shielding under the car, i assumed it was to protect the cat.

It starts at the rear of the engine and pieces extend to the end of the main cat

im assuming its another stock piece that usually gets torn off by speed bumps

RotaryEvolution 07-13-05 01:15 AM

those are heat shields, what i think he means is more of a skid plate?

wouldn't take much to make one if that is what you are meaning.

RoadRaceJosh 07-13-05 01:22 AM

Under or over the tranny? Racers often use a tranny shield or blanket so if the box explodes it doesn't hurt the driver. So if that's what you want get a blanket meant for a smaller auto trans.

One just sold on EBAY Sunday night for a little over $25 bucks.

KompressorLOgic 07-13-05 02:11 PM

man i had NO clue these cars came with them.. all 4 of the FC i have owned didnt have one, but then again they all looked like they were takin apart at some point in time, prev owners prolly threw them away.

explains the bolt holes on each side of hte trany that i couldnt figure out there use for....

bigdv519 07-13-05 05:10 PM

My 10th AE has one. None of the other 6 RX-7's I have have one.

dregg100 07-13-05 05:16 PM

all 10thAE's have them. it is supposed to give you 1.5 better MPG on the highway and it makes it feel more stable

Source? Until then I'd just consider that hearsay.

bigdv519 07-13-05 06:45 PM

Double that....what source is that info from...

Stanello 07-13-05 09:26 PM

Hey, I've got one of those. Its not a tranny underpan like the FDs have, but it covers most of the subframe and oil pan. They came stock on all Sport models and I think GTU models as well.

silverrotor 07-13-05 09:50 PM

Yeah thats the one. Thanks for the link. It looks like I am going to get some more blow by with the oil cooler.:D At this point I'm hoping It'll reduce temps (minor at that) and restore sanity.

RotaryEvolution 07-14-05 12:13 AM

heh, i would tend to think it would raise temps...

that is just my opinion though as i have not seen or used one. it is more for aerodynamics and i would tend to think it would congest the engine cooling rather than help it out.

Great, something else Sport specific my car is missing!

banzaitoyota 07-14-05 11:10 AM

:) I have 2

coldfire 08-03-05 10:31 AM

just wondering guys, are the bolt holes for this shield present on ALL FC coupes?

Icemark mentioned that no modifications were required on the FC coupes to put this shield on, so i am assuming they are?

First time I saw it I thought it was cool and would get it but changed my mind. I don't think it helps much because I am not driving fast most of the time. It will just add some weight (not much though) to my car.

PISTONS 06-16-11 01:08 PM

Sorry guys for waking this one up but I want one for my fc... It pretty much came on all ae's but some s4 with aero packages from what I understand.

Almost 6 years old Icemark was the shit...
