Alternator and wiring harness
I'm currently installing the wiring harness on a S4, 1988 engine. When connecting the alternator does the Black or the White connect to the alternator. They both are in very similar positions and both fit.

Anybody?
|
Black/White should go at the top of the back plug, White/Black at the bottom...
|
Could you elaborate... I'm new to RX-7's, this is a learning experience for me.

look for my thread on alternstors. I use alt for short.
You will find my thread whichh both wayne and Hailers explain it. So name Digi7ech keyword alt |
do you have an original equipment type alternator? if so, then there should be a 2 terminal receptacle on the back...the wiring harness should have a 2 pin plug that fits the receptacle...the top wire in the plug should be a black wire with a white stripe...there is also a rather large wire that attaches to the top of the alternator, it runs to the positive post on the battery (through the harness)...it is held in place by an 8mm nut...do not allow this "ring" terminal to contact the engine or other grounds (unless the battery has been disconnected), it will blow your main fuse...that explain it good enough?

I have a picture but i keep getting denied ability to post it, its not too big, and yes i used "Post Reply"

all right, just try to explain it as far as your "limited rx-7 experience" will allow...

Ok. I know about the ring connector in the top of the alternator. I also know that on the wiring harness, there are two connectors. One is black plastic, the other white. They are both the same kind of connectiona nd fit the alternator. Both are equadistant from the alternator plug at the back. I'm not sure what to do.
edit: I don't appreciate that "limited rx-7" knowledge comment :p: |
On the 88.The plug is white.Thats the one that goes to the alt.Hope this helps.

LOL, just kidding around...all right, the two plugs you just described sound eerily like the port air and switching solenoid valve plugs for the Air Control Valve, which should be sitting on the right side of the engine, just above the exhaust manifold...if you don't have one (there should be a blank-off plate there), that would explain the two plugs just "hangin' around"...the plug you'll want for the alt will be a clear/ white color, and it should snap in with a click, like I said, it should have two wires- Black/white and white/black, black/w on top...
|
can I e-mail youa pic wayne? I just want to make sure i'm right here...
|
man, I'm punchin' out right now...just find the B/W and W/B wire plug and you'll be fine...
|
I did find it. thanks a lot guys.
