alt prob again
so i added new grounds to the engine and also ran the b+ terminal a new ground to the pos(+) on the battery. it ran great for like almost a week and now i am noticing that it is starting to just sit at 12.5 even when i get on it. i removed the airpump. would it be possible that the pully isn't doing its job and that it isn't creating enough of a current for the alt.

slipping belt? And maybe rephrase above, it seiously sounds like you grounded your b+ terminal and 12v+ post . Double pulles assist mainly in the waterpump pulley (has low contact area withthe belt), but wouldn't hurt the alterntor any :)

sorry i didn't ground the b+ terminal i just ran a 8 or 10 gauge wire from the b+ terminal to the 12v(+) on the battery. then i ran another engine ground.

isn't there a b+ terminal wire on the stock wire harness?

yeah, metallic rock from the first gen forum said that he had the same prob and that he would help me out. so i ran a new one and then i also connected the old one on the stock harness.
but i am now still having the prob i don't know if it is just the gauge or what it is. cause we had already ran the new wires |
does any one have a clue on what could be wrong or have a similar situation that they figured out. bump.

Ok... are you sure your alternator is up to par? I'd either grab the FSM or roll it into a shop that does a full charging system check for free (sears does this upon request for no charge if you do any other service with them...)

It's either a bad alternator or a bad voltmeter..

i am going to say that it is the voltmeter that went bad on me cause i just put the alternator in. and also the battery is like a week old so i guess i will have to go out and buy a voltmeter. probably autometer like the rest that i have.

CE, I would not trust and voltmeter in the car. Buy a digital test meter. Measure battery voltage. (should be around 12V+). Start engine. Measure battery voltage (I'd expect at least 13.5V). Turn on headlights, rev engine to, say 2500rpm. Measure battery voltage (I'd expect around 14.5V+).
If you cannot get near to these values, then the new alternator is not generating sufficient output. Realise that electronic devices have their greatest attrition during their first few hours of operation, and alternators are notorious for early failure. Hope this helps. i was also thinking that maybe it had to do with me taking the belt off of my air pump and not running a dual pully set up or the "yoohoo belt" off of 1300cc.com. so i figured it wasn't cranking enough.

well could it be the fact that i only have one belt that is running the water pump. would that be a cause for the alternator to die. also i have a stereo, but it is only 300 watt peak and 150 rms also a sony deck. but that wouldn't kill my alternator would it. also would running the pos(+) on the battery to the b+ terminal kill the battery. please help.

I had the same problem. All I did to fix it was replace the terminals on the batery, and clean the main ground connection.

well update i have noticed that there is a yellow and red wire that has a connector on the end of it and it is cut off. it is on the same harness as the b+ terminal ring. does anyone know what this is?(yellow/red) ithink
