All of you with ractive strut bars please read!

Does anyone have the napa/ autoze part # or size of ALTERnator belt for the rex after installing the bar. or anyway of figuring out which one to buy?

cezonetheillest 03-23-04 01:48 AM

hey man i would just go up to napa or call and then get them to look it up for you on the computer.

RRTEC 03-23-04 02:03 AM

Do you think they'd have a part # coinciding with an aftermarket part?

bcty 03-23-04 02:07 AM

get the stock belt but a few inches shorter.. whatever that is should work

Nick86 03-23-04 08:09 AM

Mine fit properly with the stock belt.......

Are you sure that the bar is installed right?

Does yours "point forward" like this?

Going into Napa with a belt and asking them for a shorter one will probably get you nowhere. The stock PS pump belt seems to be too big for my car, and whenever I go to a parts store - they tell me that they can't just root through their belts measuring all of them.

Maybe try a smaller non-chain store. Their service tends to be better.

on most belts the part number is also the size.

if you know the stock part number you can usually figure it out by looking at similar part numbers.

JonEQuest 03-23-04 09:27 AM

It's not that complicated really

A belt with part# 15321 is a 32.1" belt so make sure that the last few numbers read 310, 315, etc. I am running a dual pulley with two 15305 belts, and it is not hitting my strut bar anymore.

Break it down (15) is the munufacturers own # for the type of belt, (V, serpentine, tooth styles), and the (305) is for the inches, in this case a 30.5 inch long belt. Autozone says our cars take a 15321. That would be a 32.1" belt. what you want is a shorter belt like a 31" or a 15300.

Get it?

thanks that helps.... Will try that out.

I too have the Ractive Strut bar...

I use the stock sized belt on my engine, the key to using this bar (and probably any other) is to make sure it is installed as Nick86 showed: with the bend forward and turned slightly down to clear the hood reinforcements. Mine rubbed the insulation until I twisted it down as well as forward.

Here is the belts that I used when I reinstalled a newly rebuilt engine. Goodyear Gatorbacks... I like em!

The first number in the list is like JonEQuest spec'ed out, but as you'll notice the number after ALT is the metric number. You'll find that the first digits in the metric part number are the width of the belt, the second are the length. A little calculation shows that the 32.1" belt crosses to a 800mm long belt, but 32.1" is actually 815mm, a 15mm or 9/16" difference in length, either should work though if the strut bar is in the right position. :D

My strut bar does not curve forward so the stock belt was not going to work for me. If you use a shorter belt it will always fit no matter what.
