For all you logicon Gurus
I've been trying to take mine out with no success. Right now i have the steering wheel off and the instrument cluster out of the way. The haynes manual says to just reach through and unplug it. It is nearly impossible to do that. I tried for abotu a half an hour to unplug that connector and you can barely touch it. is there an easier way before I put the whole cluster and wheel back together and give up?

take out the instrumentation cluster, u will see the plug then.
I just undo the box off the back of the logicon. What are you trying to do with it?
I did take that out. But I dont see the plug. isnt it in the back right behind te center console sort of. I feel it there when i tug on the unit. but i just cant get it out. there is also that air duct that goes around behind the cluster taht gets in the way. I just want to switch logicons because my heater and A/C are broken and I wnat to see if the logicon is the culprit.

Even my great big large sized hands can fit in there and get to the plug. Your other way is to remove the upper front dash panel/ Pop the center plastic tab up (it will probably break) undo the nut under it, and pop up the panel. Sometimes you will also need to pull the A pillar covers to get the front upper dash panel out, but often you can just squeese it out. Once it is out, you can look in through the windsheild to see where the plug is and how to get to it. |
Im going after the right plug right? Is it like cake to get out and right behind the instrument cluster. or do Ibhave to dig my hand in there to the rigth a little?
as you sit in the drivers seat you will reach in, and go right, towards the center consol, but level straight between the dash vents
hmm, i mustve been reaching for the wrong connector them. I saw that one and it did look rigth so i didnt want to unhook it. I'll go try now. It is the only one in that area right?
I've been pressing the little thing in and yanking like crazy, its going nowhere. Little help and suggestion please.
yep, push the locking pin down (into the plug), and pull the harness up. It will come right up and out.
I think you might want to try and pull the front top dash panel so you can see what you are doing |

I havent been back there in awhile, but I thought the longer wire everyone has problems reaching went into that box. So I thought it might be easier to disconnect that box from the rest of the logicon. I cant remember if its unpluggable though.

when my heater and ac didnt work i though that was the problem but it wasnt. when you try to switch the fan on do u hear the relay click which is below the glove box
all my buttonsd and fan slider work, the ac pump kicks in, btu I get no cool air, and my heater doesnt work. nothing happens when i move the temperature slider. no AMM noise.
Yep, sounds like an air mix motor failure.
They are pretty easy to test though. You might want to search, I have posted the test a couple of times for both air mix and air position motors |
so do you suggest I leave the logicon in and check the AMM? or swap the logicon with another one i have that looks nearly brand new in and out? How hard is it to test the AMM?
I would test the Air mix motor before plugging in the new logicon. If the air mix motor is bad it will take out your newer working logicon.
You will need to access that same plug, that is way back in there to test the air mix motor. So it might be easier to pull the top front of the dash to get your meter's test leads to it. |
okay, any tips other than take out the a- pillars? I've disassembled the whole top half of the cars interior many times before due to a leaky sunroof. Just leave any tips if you ahve them and I'll talke this project this weekend.
The panel itself is metal, so you don't have to worry about breaking it. Its just the defrost vents and the small plastic rectangle between them that you have to be careful of
The defroster vents are already broken and out.,I'm looking at the FSM, it seems easy. One screw under the center cap, then pull it up and out. thanks very much Icemark, i appreciate it greatly.
EDIT:: Any way it could be related to a broken thermostat, or one taht is not stock? |
Thanks to everyone that helped. The problem is fixed, my logicon was bad.
