air scoop?
 

Does the stock "air scoop". the plastic thing that goes from the filter, over the rad shroud, actually get any air? i have one sitting there and was debatin whether or not to put it on, becuase i would have to cut a hole for it in my cold air box.

Yes, it does get air... it feeds the stock airbox. If you're going to have a custom cold air "box" with a cone filter, you will not need the "scoop". However, leave the "shroud" for the stock engine fan.

well i made a box that is no means professional. its just a box that seperates the filter area from the rest of the engine bay. no actualy COLD air going to it, so if this scoop actually will get air id like to put it on. but it didnt look like it got much, so i left it off.

Well, it got enough to feed your stock intake box... the engine does well to "suck" air. It doesn't need to be force fed air. I'd ditch it and leave the shroud for the fan to direct air.

How else do you think air gets into the engine? :confused:

It will only work if your "box" is completely airtight like the stock airbox, and the intake duct is sealed to the side of it.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time with it. You should to trying to improve on the stock intake, not stick with the skinniest part of it.

well of course it gets air. what i mean is, will it bring any cold air to the engine? i mean the stock filter has to suck from that. but a cone filter can suck air from anywhere around it, and would suck elsewhere than that thing. so will air actually have positive pressure through it, bringing cold air to the filter?

No. That's why I said it has to be a sealed system like stock.

NO! DO NOT DITCH IT! Whoever said leaving the fan to do the air feeding needs their brain ripped out and stomped on. The fan only blows hot air around the engine bay, plus it created turbulence in the air. This = bad. You want COLD air, so leave the snorkel on! Consider designing a simple pipe system with a scoop at the front of the car somewhere to ram cold air into the box when you're moving. Sort of like the brake coolers. Too bad there's no place to re-route one of the brake cooler ducts to force air into the box...that'd kick ass. Also, insulate your stock pipe if you have one with aluminum insulating TAPE. Works quite well.

i made a custom one outta checker plate, diamond plate, w/e u wanna call it...

I think you misunderstood what the guy was saying. He said to leave the fan shroud there - not to use it to get air to the box. The fan shroud should be there for engine cooling purposes, it has nothing to do with the air box.

As far as the snorkle goes, like NZ said, unless the box is sealed, the tube is pretty much useless there.


Sure there is! You just have to cut a hole in the sheet metal underneith the cold air box. Then you put a tube that goes from the bumper to your cold air box. That way you get a huge amount of cold air in there. Mine works great!

open your hood and look at the upper left corner....remove that rubber water guard, and wen you close your hood you will have a little slit in the hood for air to get in,...do a "sleepy eye" or keep your headlights open and more air should get in....i can see my intake frum the slot so air shud get in....

o yea....you can remove the upper lid of your stock air box....or get an aftermarket cone filter....this wont work if you still have the stock lid on...lol...i forgot...chek out my custom aluminum intake tho....

That's like trying to run a marathon while breathing through a drinking straw. You simply can't get anywhere near enough cold air with that method.

More air? Sure. Enough air? Nope.

yea i know...but its "some" air....rather run a marathon with a straw rather then holding my breath...lol

why dont yu just buy the headlight cover with a duct in it

Trust me, your tiny little gap is doing nothing. 99% of the air entering the filter will be coming from the engine bay, not outside. It should be pretty obvious why...
