air pump ok to run w/o cat?

Quick question. Removed my cats on my t2, but I don't feel like going through the trouble of getting rid of the airpump. Is it perfectly fine for it to just pump air into the air, or does it need some kind of backpressure to keep it from burning up?

just remove the belt. It is pointless to run it with out a cat. Just get a dual belt alternator pully, belt, and you are in good shape. Otherwise, I imagine you will here that pump, well, pump.....

an airpump is twice as easy to remove than a cat!!!! i took one off yesterday and it took me a whole 10 minutes.

now what about removing the cats on an N/A 6 port?? will it affect the aux port leaving that tube unattached to the cat??well where the cat would be

it will do nothing, i also have no cats while still running the airpump. take off the belt is you want, other than that, it wont do a thing of a diffrence.

KompressorLOgic 10-31-05 06:25 PM

if you have no cats......

you would want the air pump still attached if you have an s5 NA as that is what the vdi and 5th 6th port are actuated on...

if its an NA s4 or any t2 it wont really make a difference and it can be removed no problem.... ( with no cats on a s4 na you wont have the back pressure to activate the ports anyway)

ohh yeah lol responding to the actual question, yes you can run the air pump with out cats if you want it wont "burn up" or anything like that...

ok so runnin the pump on an s5 is safe without cats,,

My vert does just fine gutted (thats it gutted nothing else).
So does the miata.

its completly safe and a good idea!! your 5th 6th ports and vdi wont work without it! and you will lose alot of hp

Green_Streak 11-01-05 01:30 PM

yeah, cause we all know that the 5th and 6th ports and VDI are very important to power on a T2...
