air pump?

Ok so I have a 88 gxl, I pull up to work today and my engine, again is leaking coolant so I open the hood, and I can't find this leak for nothing, well while looking for the leak I found the a/c pump ( which mine has been converted to 134 or what ever its called, which is under the power steering pump, my question is, what is the (air pump) that's on the passenger side? Is that the old ac system? Which the mount is broke and there is no belt on it, thanks

MrGoodnight 01-25-12 01:42 PM

It is for emmisions equipment, has nothing to do with the ac.

can i pull it out? i mean its not even being ran with the serpintine belt

MrGoodnight 01-26-12 01:09 AM

You need it for your 5th and 6th ports to work properly, put a belt on it and you make notice a power increase.

ok, the braket to hold it in place is actually broke, if its not hooked up will it fuck with the throttle idel?

edit... what are the 5th and 6th ports anyways?

Your idle will be fine, it has nothing to with the idle.

Search, go to google, takes 10 seconds and its been covered before.
Or read the 2nd gen Faq, it will clear up most of your questions about your car.

Aaroncake is the man, just read up on his website and read the faq, and before you ask a question, google it and see if you can find the answer there. You should be golden though after a little research.

He has an 88. S4 aux ports work off of exhaust back pressure not the air pump.

lol, I was just about to point that out...

Though they should always be modified to run off of an airpump.

Jimster it is usually a good idea to keep the airpump hooked up [the belt installed] so that you have enough belt gripping your water pump pulley. Alternatively [say if you used an electric airpump for the 5th/6th ports] you can install a Yoohoo Belt [ http://www.pineappleracing.com/yoohoobelt.aspx ] or a dual alternator pulley.

Coolant seal failures are no fun.. Keep checking to make sure. And when it's rebuilt, make sure to be diligent on your coolant changes ever after. ^_^

Derekcat 01-26-12 04:01 PM

Is what I did.. There's also a better [more precise] way to use an emission solenoid.
