Air box options without cutting new holes
 

Just added a giant cone filter and it works great. I need some type of air box, but don’t want to cut any new holes in the car.

Is a simple heat shield using only standard air flow (without new ducts, such as vinspeeds) sufficient? Adding a vented headlight cover seems helpful but not a complete solution.

Would a fully enclosed box using the stock snorkel work? It doesn’t appear to have quite enough flow for hard-driving.

Any suggestions for how to get air to the box without cutting new holes for ducts will be appreciated.

now on a side note.... get used to cutting and modding... they go hand and hand. Use a hole saw and it wont look so bad.

If I wanted to cut a gapping hole in wheelwell or firewall or move my washerfuild, I would just follow one of the writeups. I'm looking for another idea.

then open your hood and look. is there a hole? if there is not a hole laready there... then looks like your gonna have to cut.

You've got to define what you consider "sufficient".

Ironically, I've got a buddy with an aftermarket cone filter attached to the stock TID, surrounded by a home-made aluminum box, using the stock 'snorkel' with a vented headlight cover... lol.

There are better ways then this.

If you want cold-air, you're not the first... Believe me, there will be no new innovations for cold-air into an FC... What you've seen in those 5 pages is what you get. If you don't want to cut a hole (why not?) then it's unlikely there'll magically appear a new/better method after 15 years of prior testing and modification.

If you really want cold-air, you already know what it takes...

i'm with him ^ on this one i tried for a bout 2 months when i was doing my build on my 2nd fc in order to make something with out cutting that is going to flow right is pretty hard. i've seen them in front of the radiator and oil cooler and they bring the piping in between the headlight area and the radiator and thats some custom stuff right there cause you got to tilt the rad. a lil bit with new brackets there a thread i believe somewhere on here about it . but i on the cool if ur thinking that cutting a 3 inch hole might do something to the body or the fact that you may have to take your washer fluid res. out it wont and you dont have to theres another thread on how to keep your washer fluid res. just thought that may help and good luck

If there's no way for outside air to get to the filter, hot air will be sucked from the engine bay instead, defeating the purpose of the heat shield.

They don't let that much air in (too small) and they're useless with the headlights up.

I added a scoop on my hood, all fiberglassed in, before I painted it. It looks different, but as good as, factory IMO. Then I made a box around the filter that seals pretty well. the easiest route for the air to come in is through the scoop, although I'm sure there is SOME leakage.

i dont have money for my n/a so im also gonna have to be innovative
and im gonna try to move the resevoir infront of the radiator and install a filter there and run the piping under the headlight to the throttle,
if i get this workin i will post some pics

I get the feeling you are right ...

On the up side, I have access to full sheet metal shop and all duct I could ever need. It's been years since I worked there, but I think it will come back to me.
