The title sorta says it all, my oil pressure gauge doesn't work proerly all the time (sometimes i'll be cruising around with a solid 60 PSI, and sometimes it'll just peg right to the top as soon as I turn the key), and I was wondering if it would be cheaper/more acurate to get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge.

If it's logical to go aftermarket, where is the best place to tap the guage for the most accurate reading, any diagrams or anything would be helpful.

Of course, I will need to know of good brands and ventors, as I'm not familiar with brands or anything, I don't need rice, and I don't need flashy, small and practical (and cheap!) would be preferable.

the BEST way to do it is to get the Racingbeat oil temp/pressure adapter plate that fits under the filter mount. it has holes already tapped into it fot the gauge sending units.

Its under the oil system drop down and its Part Number: 11802. I think its about 48 bucks... but worth it IMO!!!

As for where to get the gauges. I always get my stuff from summit. Besides, they got pics of everythin!!!!!!

 

yeah no joke.....i think mine is crap because it says I have 10 psi then i rev it for a sec then its up to 60 then it stays around 30.....if I had that low of PSI all the time for the last few years my motor wouldnt run....Ill check for a new one soon...thanx

 

You can get a small adaptor available in a kit at most auto parts stores that allows you to replace the stock sending unit...no extra parts required. So your gauge reads from the stock location, no worries with oil pedestals leaking and such. Just about any gauge will do, you obviously pay more for quality. I will say that a mechanical gauge is always more accurate than an electric gauge, but mechanicals are slightly less safe because oil is actually routed through a tube into the cabin where the gauge is at (Ive never heard of one leaking, though). I have an aftermarket electrical gauge, and even IT is inaccurate when compared to my mechanical gauge (that I test questionable engines/cars with).

Kevin - That's cool to know, I think i'm going to see what they have for me over at advance I'm going to be going for mechanical, I figure If i'm going to spend the money, do it right the first time...

YearsOfDecay - That's a cool idea! If our sending units weren't so easy to get at, I'd probably go with it.. although I am going to keep that in mind for my friend's eclipse whose gauge is never accurate

 

If you are just putting a Presure gauge in then the stock location adapter kits are great.

BUT, I like the RB plate because you can run an oil temp gauge AND an oil pressure gauge out of it at the same time. I'm a bit **** and I like to have the stock gauge as a backup.
