Is aftermarket fuel filter as good as oem?
i just didnt want to pay 35 bucks for a new filter from mazdatrix. Is thier an aftermarket one like K/N that will fit. I plan on changing my fuel filter every 30,xxx so i dont think it maters on quality for me.
|
I would like to know the answer to this as well but I have heard when upgrading your fuel system you should upgrade the filter as well. Its $35 for the filter? Hmm, I might get one too.

Mazdaformance has it for 22-25. Mazda COmp is even cheaper.
A former FC autoxer once told me that his car was running fine until he put a FRAM filter in there. THe car would not start and run after. TUrns out the FRAM was so restrictive that he couldnt get enough fuel pressure. So use aftermarket parts at your own risk. The only part that is not aftermarket is my air filter and my brake caliper. Everything else is OEM. I put 40-50K a year on my car, nothing failed EXCEPT the brake caliper that i didnt get from mazda |
I know a guy with a similar story about the AC Delco fuel filter. He had a Turbo II with a full EMS. The filter that was in the car was an AC Delco. He replaced it with a Mazda and everything went to full rich. He put a new AC Delco in and everything went back to normal.
Being an engineer he was very curious if the filter was really the issue, so he filled a small fishtank up with gasoline, dropped in a fuel pump, and ran it through each filter while timing how long it took to empty the tank. After running the test a few times, he could without a doubt prove the Mazda filter flows better. |
Now we need a similar test on the oil filter....
|
what about the mazdaperformance and comp...Those are aftermarket but still from MAZDA right???
|
The FRAM Tough Guard filter is the best on the market.
it's not that cheap orange filter. This one is made entirely of synthetic material with a SPE of 98% and MPE of 99%. No other oil filter can yield these results. BTW, i understand that the OEM fuel filter is a metal mesh design as opposed to fiber media. |
Batman... Where can I get one...Kragen mabey? And how much.

I think people are getting confused...
I think the original poster was talking about FUEL filters and NPT oil filters. -Ted |
ok so the question is, will a Mazdaperformance or Mazdacomp filter flow as good as an OEM filter??
|
Mazdaformance and Mazda comp sell the OEM type filter. I would only use that. Never had problems with them. They are the cheapst place (under 30) dealer charge 35
|
Well I just got the fram tough gard from what Batman said.
|
At $20-30, why risk messing w/ cheaper fuel filter. My experience with Mazda filters tells me that they are of high quality and performs better than aftermarket ones. This applies to fuel, air, oil filters.

They just want to have different engine failure
|
What about all the people that say you need to upgrade the fuel filter when upping the fuel (injectors/pump)? Is this not true?
|
why not "T" the fuel line and run 2 filters? If I remerber right there are just fuel lines running to and from the filter right?
|
they set us up the bomb....
get OEM and be happy :) |
