"aftermarket" antenna

Hi,

real quick, the guy who owned my car before me tried to put a CB radio in the car and has swapped the "extendo" antenna for a little 1 inch tall unit. I have no clue why he did that, but obviously it hardly picks up any stations. I was wondering if anyone has tried those "hidden" antennas. I know autoloc has one, but I'd like to hear some feedback before I get one of these. if you have one, where'd you get it and how do you like it? Do they work as good as a regular antenna? I'd just like something better looking than the stock antenna, and a "hidden" antenna would "look" the best. Or if anyone has picture of a "good looking" alternative...

Thanks

good questions...i've wanted to know this too and never heard any actual feedback about those hidden antennas.

Yeah, I had one for a while... They aren't as good as the stock one, but they are ALMOST as good... More sensitive to weather and stuff... I ditched it and put on a static whip type... that worked the best.

Hmmm. I wonder how the 'hidden' antennas would compare to the 'auxiliary' antenna in the windshield. The spoiler I just had put on my 'vert unfortunately precludes using the stock antenna mount, so I'm looking at hooking up the aux antenna instead (though I don't care that much given I use the radio like 5% of the time I'm in the car and the iPod the other 95%...)

From what I've been able to "dig up," seems like guys are taking the stock units off of the new cars that come with the "hidden" antennas and fitting them into their own cars. I noticed on all the kits that rae being made all had the disclaimer that it "should" sound as good as your stock FM radio, but no AM.
the search continues though...
