ADD COOLANT!?!?!?! Please Help!
 

I have an 87 RX-7, automatic. One very annoying thing with my car (I don't know if all RX-7's do this) is that an annoying buzzing sound comes on whenever the "Add Coolant" light comes on or the "Oil" light comes on. It's so damn annoying. So in this case, the add coolant light came on and I went and got some anti-freeze to pur into the resevoir. Well, I look inside and the stuff is brown. So, I decided to flush it.

I flush it all out, clean it out with some Prestone SuperFlush, then add coolant through to filler hose and then into the resevoir. I turn on my car...the light remains and so does the buzzing!!! WTF could be wrong with my car? HELP!

hey man teh same thing happen to me.. im me at aol my screenname is sexyspanishdude. your coolant sensor cable might be broken. you can buy it for like 15 bucks. all you have to do is make sure all teh hoses are tight and that your radiator is full. but most likely is ur sensor on top of teh radiator.

You need to bleed the coolant system. Look at the top left side of the radiator where the hose goes to the thermostat housing. There will be a little plastic screw going into the rad. This is a bleed plug. Take of the cap on the thermo housing, and unscrew that bleed plug. Now add coolant into the thermo housing until it starts coming out of the little hole, then put the screw back in. Then continue to fill until it is about to overflow at the thermo housing, and put the cap back on. You should be good to go now...

Did you use the air bleeder?

hes right your wire is probably broken or even just disconnected, when i was rewiring my rx7 the other weekend i turned the key to see if my lights, blinkers ect... worked and i was freaked out by this buzzing sound, took me forever to figure it out because i had the idiot unplugged lol, when i finally plugged it back in i realized it was the coolant wire i had dangling in the hood cause the light came on... and btw i think the wire is orange or at least mine is on my 88 se, check to see if an orange wire is dangling or broken somewhere in the engine bay

Make sure the sensor is plugged in, its at the top of your radiator, in the middle.

Unscrew the sensor make sure you see the coolant all the way up there. Be careful though it may come flowing out.

Heh, I just had it running for a few minutes and coolant came spewing out of the little tube in the resevoir container thing. I think I put too much in.

And yes, I unscrewed the plug thing, just like it said in the manual. I think it's the sensor, but could someone better describe how to fix this?

P.S. It does it with my oil, too.

Have you replaced the rad cap? When my rad cap went bad, it would force coolant out of my overflow bottle..causing low coolant levels and the buzzer going off. If you do replace it, get an OEM mazda cap and thermostat, as the off the shelf brands such as stant or the like do not work, I know from experience... About the oil....have you checked the oil level?

Ok, where can I get that cap?

Anyway, the thing about my oil is that after I had got a new oil change, two weeks later my oil light came on. I took out the dipstic and NO oil. I eventually had to do this every 3 weeks (put two new quarts of oil in). It was rediculous. I thought a seal might have been broken but when I got my next oil check, it never happened again.

But nevertheless, the buzzing comes on when the light does.

Also, my horn doesn't work. Do any of you know how to fix that?

LOL, guys, my car is falling apart. And I gotta get it inspected by the end of May...

hmm....so it is full?

There might be a clogg in the rad or a screwed up thermostat... Open the rad cap check for fluid... If you see none it might be due to a blocked radiator or a faulty thermostat.

Thats gotta be it... Because your system is full Right? So if you turn on the car and then turn it off check the fluid its at full the full line on the res tank? after its cooled

But i think it might be a clogged rad or a faulty thermostat!

Well I screwed out the sensor and began pooring in more coolant until it was high enough for the needle to touch it. Then I screwed it back in and the wire broke.

What is the name of the part that I need to buy (for web-surfing reference). And I am also buying a GReddy radiator cap.

that was your problem, mine did the exact same thing

i purchased a water temp guage.... so instead of getting cold/ warm / your just blew your engine


I acctually get real temp readings. THan i took that wire going to the sensor and grounded it. Simple as that. 2 years now and no problem. Obviously i put a real nice plasic screw in the sensors place... I am a real freak when it comes to checking fluids... so i just check it every time i check my oil. (every morning) :)

check the OIL level also, the same thing happen to me i put more oil and the sound went off ....after a week the sound came back now im checking if i have a leak on the oil or something else
