Add Coolant alarm
I have an 86 RX7 that is giving me a random low coolant alarm. The coolant levels are not low and the engine temp is not high, but the alarm will go off at random. Sometimes it's on for a few seconds...sometimes it stays on for a long time. Quite annoying actually. I have replaced the low coolant sensor that is located in the top center of the radiator, is there something else that might be causing this?
Any help would be appriciated. |
i am running into the same problem it buzzes like crazy for no reason, im wondering if its related to cold soder joints at all?
|
Air bubbles in the system.
|
i have same problem as well couple seconds after start up that annoying sound goes on, u say its bubbles?
|
Add some water wetter to your system. That will help i think if it really is bubble. Make sure you read the proper way to blead your system of air too, but water wetter says thats kinda how it works (by eliminating air bubbles).
|
oh i see, i saw something that said "Bleeding" near the front radiator cap but didnt care to read it all, thanks i'll have to do that to my car as well
|
You haven't mentioned warning lights. Both the low-oil and low-coolant warning systems use the same buzzer, with the appropriate warning light. Make sure your oil is topped up too.

just cut the wire and bolt it to the chassis!! thats what i did, lol, but u gotta check the level on a regular basis (i usualy do it daily anyway so i grounded it cause itd anoy the shit out of me!)
|
Since the warning annoyed you so much, did you think to fix the cause of the problem? Checking the coolant daily (which is not necessary on a well maintained car) will not help you if a hose fails and you loose coolant while driving.
|
hose isnt gunna fail! water pump housing is leaking, and sence i have nothing else to drive i gotta check it daily and jsut top her off everymorn before class and then before work! should have the other car runnin soon if the douche bag will ever get back to me about the motor, but until then i gotta do what i gotta do!! tryied RTV but thats leaking again casue i cant wait a full 24 hours to let it dry :(

add coolant alarm is back
Ok, I just flushed my radiator...and bang the problems back. But I think i've identified the real problem now. Coolant is going into the overflow reservoir, but not going back to the radiator when it cools.
Someone suggested to me that I have a pressure leak in my system, so that a vacuum can not be created to pull the fuild back. However, when i open the radiator cap, even after it's sat for a day or so, there is still a lot of pressure in the system. Any thoughts? |
bad rad cap or leaking coolant seals
|
I have a similar thing happening in my car but it's a slow leak issue. I found the leak at the upper end of the lower radiator hose. Evidently the factory clip that I put back on after the rebuild isn't clamping tight enough. So it drips till it lowers the fluid level enough to trip that damn buzzer...
Anyway, that may be totally different than what's going on in your car, I don't know what you've done to trouble shoot it, but check for leaks too. If that isn't it... I'd wonder if you've got a seal problem in the engine. Does it smoke? |
it is different than what's going on in my car. When i flushed the radiator, i filled the system up then filled the over flow to the low level. It's now full. I keep adding to it every other day or so to keep the system full.
I just don't understand how come it's not being pulled back out of the reservior. the hose doesn't appear to leak and it's not plugged that i can tel. Someone mentioned the warning light. It's the add coolant light that's coming on, not the oil level light. |

I have a short list here: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/PROBLEMS/P1/LEAKS/leaksc.html Although it's for turbos, it's similar for non-turbos. -Ted |
