AC doesn't work

My AC doesn't work anymore. I hit the button and the compressor isn't coming on.
The buttons haven't 'lit up' when you press them for a coupla years now. Could that unit be bad? Is there a way of repairing it?

The logicon lights are a seperate issue. Maybe burned out lamps or bad solder joints.

With the engine running & the AC selected on, try briefly jumping the low pressure cut-out switch.
It's under the plactic panel, near the dryer.
If you're just low on freon, the compressor will come on.

Excuse the probably stupid question but, where's the dryer? Under the plastic panel up in front of the radiator?

yep, you answered your own question.

And I can rebuild your logicon to have the lights work again. Check my website

ok..check ur system......it could be empty..mine didnt turn on when it was empty...once i retrofitted to 134a it started turning again.......fill it up first...with a can or so.....if it doesnt run then somethings wrong....dont know if its the right way to fix it..but it worked for me.....

check the power wire next to the battery and make it did not come loose. then check to see if it has freon in it. let me know what you get.

If your dash blower isn't working its time to rebuild your logicon. The compressor won't come on if your low on freon, common problem. Seals leak over time. If you take it to a shop for service they have a "SNIFFER" that they can detect leaks with.

Here is another suggestion. I have an 89 GTU and the A/C never worked, so I thought that it was low on freon since I'd had it for 4 years and it didn't work for the guy I bought it from. One night at one of the Rotary Drive-Ins another member suggested that I check the A/C relay. I said what? He said there is a relay switch up front of the engine bay that controls power to the compressor. It is a round, silver sealed relay in a black rubber cover with a bracket that mounts to the front rail of the engine bay, ahead of the radiator.

I think there are 3 or 4 relays up there, the others are square and this is the only round one. Anyway you can use a small wire to jump the relay to throw power to the compressor and test the A/C system if the relay is bad. Well we did this on mine and the compressor clicked on when the A/C button is pushed in on the logicon. He checked my freon and nothing had leaked out after 4+ years of not being able to cycle the system. I said all that to say that its not always the lack of freon that causes the system to shut down.

Test your A/C relay and if you can jump it and get the system to turn on then it is a cheap and simple fix, replace the A/C relay. I found mine in an 89 or 90 Honda Accord at a junk yard and was able to get some guys who had removed their A/C systems to send me a used relay. I paid $5 at the junk yard and $10 for relays that had been working from other RX owners.

You might try this before you spend a lot of time and money trying to trouble shoot your A/C system.

Thanks. I'll give these suggestions a shot.

for all those who have successfully converted to R-134a, what is your low pressure reading?
