ABS or no ABS? FC S4 GLX

K, I'm in then process of purchasing a 1986 S4 GLX....everything runs perfect, body is nice and straight...just the master cylinder is blown.........BTW way uber noob to 7'z

here's the question: I checked on a few autoparts sites and seen that there are about 3 or 4 different brake master cylinders for the 86 7. I know the car has AAS, but how can I tell if it has ABS brake.......I don't have the car with me and didn't know at the time there were so much variations....

so which master should I get for the GLX with or without ABS? also what's the difference between them all?:Wconfused

But to answer your question, no, that car does not have ABS :) (Its considered "Power Assisted" but not anti-lock)

thanks for the warm welcome and not so warm welcomes to come....I checked out the 1st thread, but couldn't find anything on models with ABS, does any of them have ABS?

What would be the difference with a master cylinder for ABS and one not for ABS and would it fit and work as a temporary fix...reason being is I have one laying on the side and the parts shop here won't have any in for awhile

If you feel like cutting, bending and re-flaring your hard lines, yes it could work.

Try a pick-a-part or something.

There was an 88 GXL down my street with a blown motor for $200...

I'm sure you can find something

here in Hawaii we're so limited to parts, as junkyards charge ridiculous amounts, shipping is through the roof.......I'm actually getting this car for $750, everything runs good except for the brake problem

I don't think that any 86 model year cars came with ABS. I think it was first introduced in 87 along with the Turbo car.

I have only ever seen 1 RX-7 with ABS that was before 89 model year.

Also, the model is GXL not GLX. AAS has nothing to do with ABS. If the struts have ever been replaced then the AAS system most likely no longer works.

How are you certain that the Master Cylinder is blown? Although it is an easy fix if it is.
