about to paint my engine..

Should i paint and which color????..or should i polish it??..

I've already polished my intakes...so polishing is not a problem..
I just need to know if polishing looks sweeter than a painted housings....Also i will polish my FMIC tanks and the T04..

Should i also do something with the HKS cast exaust manifold??..

fcturbo2 11-03-01 09:44 PM

BTW...the motor is apart and all housings are new..

Polish the rotor housings, and paint the irons and front cover.

I prefer the painted side housings and natural aluminum rotor housings scheme. Rob Golden showed me how to do this properly. You use junk rotor housings (12As or 13Bs), a bunch of plastic caps, and some tape or other means of masking off the larger openings. Use a normal engine paint. It's best to put on a light coat, then flow on a single heavy coat once the light coat has gotten tacky. Too thick and the paint will flake, so go easy on it. Here's what it looks like:

Not a great photo, but it's yellow and has polished rotor housings. Personally, I don't like anything yellow or anything polished, but to each his own.

WOW!...love that paint/polish job!..what else is a good color for the side housings with polished rotor housings..

Node 11-03-01 10:46 PM

the car is too faded and banana, thats more of a brighter glossier yellow on the engine. I like painted and polished engines. But yeah in some cases the glass beading (my best guess) looks damn good.

fcturbo2 11-03-01 10:51 PM

ohh boy..i really love that black sides and polished housings..any other suggestions???.

Well, yes. It's impossible to match the engine paint to the car paint, mainly because your selection is limited to the higher-temp paints. This is one of the reasons I'd suggest using a contrasting (but tasteful :)) color that is readily available. My favorite is a royal blue, but the Ford Red (first set of pics) is the next best thing. Black sucks. Yellow sucks. And my least favorite is (surprise) black and yellow -- the so called "Killer Bee" combination. Anything polished just looks stupid, too, IMO. Obviously, it all comes down to personal preference. And none of it will make the car any faster!

Anyway, find something you like and have fun. It doesn't matter what I think :)

eeny meeny mynii mo..:D

cmon guys:)

Node 11-04-01 12:09 AM

what about grey.
or white, which would get dirty, and what about powdercoating.
can we powdercoat em or would the baking process fuck something up?

fcturbo2 11-04-01 02:26 AM

neh. I wouldnt risk my 400 dollar housing for a powdercoating process... I think it will fuck it up some way. I know engine temperature is probably higher than baking process in the powdercoating oven.

I think painting it with highheat enamel will do the trick.

Jeff20B 11-04-01 02:39 AM

Yeah, you don't wanna powdercoat certain things. My bro used to work at a local powder coater and snuck his GSL-SE upper radiator shround in and did it gloss black. Oh man it looked nice, but stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of his engine bay :p

Node 11-04-01 02:53 AM

heh, just powder coat the entire engine bay frame, and components ;-)

fcturbo2 11-04-01 02:58 AM

worst comes to worst i will have it plated GOLD including my rims and muffler tips..hehehe transform the 7 into a pimp mobile:D
