91 n/a dies during wot
 

Ok so heres the deal. I will try and describe whats exactly going on here. I got my 91 n/a fc cheap but was pretty much in boxes. So insted of trying to find where everything goes i just put the things i absolutly needed to run back on the car. Its all stock with a k&n cone filter on the AFM. So heres the issue. It has a hot start issue but it will start. Idle is kinda rough but not enough to make me care. Air pump, emissions, acv, and ports are all deleted including that rats nest of vacuum garbage. The biggest thing thats getting irritating is the car will stall out anywhere above 4500 rpms. and only does it after its warmed up. under load it runs great and i dont feel any power loss. Itll climb right up the rpms then its like someone unplugged the AFM and it just bogs out and dies. then i start it up and away i go. it also died in traffic the other day when it was warm out and traffic was barley moving. Ive double checked everything and it all looks good. I have 3 vaccum lines left and they all check out. Im bout at my witts end with this thing. I really dont get whats going on. When sitting still i can get it all the way to redline and other times it will get there and bog out n die. OMP is also deleted and i run premix. 8oz to the tank using tcw-3. If anyone can help that would be great. Ive searched and searched and cant find anything. it wasnt doing this before but since its been warm its all the time. Ive been keeping it under 4500 rpms just so it dont kill. any ideas?

Did you remove the OMP completely or is it connected but not used?

Its still plugged in, just not bolted up

Might want to check for engine codes, and check the water thermosensor in the process. And make sure the fuel pressure regulator is connected properly to the right vacuum source. And you could have issues w/the fuel pump wiring getting too much resistance.

Didnt think of checking codes cuz the cel hasnt came on since i put the o2 sensor in. Car has a new fd pump and resistance is good. Ill have to check the thermo sensor

The 6pi system works great at high or low speed. Maybe your 6pi cylinders are set to be in the low position (Explains the good acceleration under 4500rpm and dies at anything over). I hear Fc3 S5 run much better stock than with things deleted. Good luck.

My 6pi where never hooked up. The sleeves arnt even in there. But maybe with the warmer weather its affecting it more. Its only after the car is warmed up. I have everything to put back on just dont know how have of it goes lol. Like where all the hoses n shit goes. Which is why i never put it all back on. Guess maybe its time to figure all that out.

(most of the post is not aimed at you, but people in general - no offense, just trying to help and encourage you to get things running properly, the right way)

Pretty much right there is your problem. People remove shit from their cars without fully understanding the purpose of stuff. I know you said it came in boxes, so you inherited someone else's mess up.

A lot of the emissions stuff also affects drivability, efficiency and power. For example, the air pump on the S5's supplies air pressure that is routed through the ACV and to the cat. But it also powers the VDI and Auxiliary ports. You're loosing massive power on the top end.

That 'vacuum garbage' is what makes your FC run like a car from the 1990's, not 1890's. People would generally not fuck around with a carb and it's different systems, but everyone is keen on removing vacuum lines, throttle body, and emission systems.

Also, the FD pump is overkill, as the FC NA's run rich to begin with. You may be running so rich, that it's causing to die.

I'd post asking help in your regional section. Maybe someone with experience and a stock S5 can park side by side and help you put things back so you get all your systems running well. That would make it easier to get on track.

I agree with pfsantos about finding someone with a properly working RX7. Having a "Cheater Car" To see how everything goes together does make things much simpler. I have had headache after headache working on my intake/vacuum system and I still do not know completely if it is hooked up correctly. I know that I thought I did and a solenoid electrical plug was switched and a one-way check valve was backward. I have been dealing with vacuum for 3 months intermittent. Installing, thinking, comparing, and replacing the little parts that make the emissions system up. It's not a barrel of monkeys but I am patient and have mechanical skills. More so now than before. If you don't have to pass California Star test, I bet you would be more happy if your car ran like mine. :nod:
