'90 RX7 GTU antenna help?

I have a nice 90' RX7 GTU. Recently the power antenna quit retracting fully.
About 6" sticks out. Ive tried lubing the antenna with silicone spray but, no help.
Please help me with suggestions on repairing this!
If I need to buy parts where is the best place to get an O.E. M. style replacement?

do you hear the motor running?
if you do you can replace the whip, about $50 from the dealer or mazdatrix, etc

The antenna mast is most likely broken - it will need to be replaced. When I replaced that part on my old RX-7, I bought it from a local rotary shop. They are still available at the dealer I imagine, or Mazdatrix. It may be available elsewhere, but I have never looked for it at other sources.

Thanks for the replies guys.
The antenna still raises and lowers 'almost' completely. 6" sticks out when retracted.
So, I need a 'mast' kit?
Where is a good place to find one?
Anyone who is a Forum supporter good to deal with?
Jim

When the mast breaks, as mine did, it's normally due to the plastic line inside the mast that pushes up or pulls down the antenna snaps causing the mast to stay in the same position. Since yours moves most of the way down and likely all the way up, a new mast might not make a difference.

AhOH! Suggestions?

To see if it is the mast or not, I would remove the antenna motor assembly from the car, open the cover and see what's left of the mast. Then you can have a slightly better idea of what is going on. A broken mast will need to be replaced anyway, but as satch said, it may be another problem.

What 'other' problems' should I be looking for, as well as a bad mast?

Rob XX 7 07-30-11 10:54 AM

its the plastic whip, it will still go up and down

mine would bind at a certain point and not go down anymore, the kit repairs this

mazdatrix has the kit and install instructions
