90 gxl 6500rpm problem

i own a 90' GXL and my car has been a great daily . only flaw is I CANNOT GET PAST 6500 WITHOUT STRUGGLING !! With the car in gear and the clutch in i can get the rpms up to7800-8000 .. so basically when the car is under Load i can not get past 6500RPMS !! if i drop into second gear into about 5500rpms i can sometimes get past 6500 but it still hesitates badly and sounds very unhealthy at that point and that point only.. I tried getting past it and it just sounded like i was hurting the motor making it lean out or its too rich ?? not sure if its a fuel problem or spark . i used to hear my injectors vibrate with the hood popped and the car off but in the on position .. so My stupid guess is a problem with My Secondary Injectors , Bad Ground for injectors or Ecu , Bad Ecu pin , or maybe bad trailing coil or lead coil ?!? I'm clueless .. any input on any kind of diagnosis i could preform to get to the bottom of this would be greatly appreciated !

Have you checked for error codes for starters? There is also a thread w/the very same problem a few threads below yours you can look at for some ideas.

Another 6500 rpm wall thread. Contends it was the TPS all along in his particular case.

You could also check and make sure all your grounds are connects tightly and getting good proper ground. I had this issue and it was that i had a ground not tighten all the way and once i did it didn't have the hesitation any more

i guess the main battery ground doesnt look too good , its kinda coated in looks to be ps fluid and grime .. should i take it out replace the screw and sand down the paint to metal or just relocate ???::scratch:

changed and cleaned the ground and nothing .. gonna adjust / replace my tps next ..

Check your spark plugs and wires. My plugs look like shit after 15k miles and the car runs less efficient. I had a similar problem and one of my sprk plugs enamel was cracked and sparking on th eblock instead of inside the engine. That and a tps adjust is always a good idea.

S5 N/A and TII tps's are different.(according to Mazdatrix website)
and Question: what aftermarket ECU is your Buddy running that does not use a TPS?

I had a similar experience with my TPS being the culprit. Even went so far as to throw a front secondary injector code but no problem with the injector or wiring.
