I think the harness pinouts are different, so it causes some compatability issues.

TwEaK 01-22-04 02:52 PM

you should go with the gauges im going with they look very nice and just replace sheets no actualy problem and you can adjust the color with a remote very nice stuff i think

tweak what are you talking about?

importedrx7 01-22-04 04:42 PM

ok if you ppl didnt understand what i am talking abou tim talking about the whole dashboard. Not the gauge cluster! i mean the whole damn thing!><>??

SAiamNE 01-22-04 05:02 PM

I got one off of a parts car from an 87 i believe and put it in my 1990...
Everything works fine as far as i know...
Havent driven it yet though.. But signal's and everything work soo...
Should be good to go.. :)

Ohhh and yes i'm talking about the dash/switches..
Not the guages.. :D

Gibenstein 01-22-04 06:31 PM

But his question is vice versa. As far as I know it will but dont quote me.

importedrx7 01-22-04 07:04 PM

i would hate to do all that work and it not work lol

SpeedFreak03 01-22-04 07:15 PM

It should but then again don't quote me cause I've never done it. But I really don't see why not...

Lodivigo 01-22-04 07:32 PM

I'm about to attempt this swap, but I think I read a post somewhere that it isn't a simple bolt in. Something about not all the screw mounting holes matching up or something...can't remember, but I'm gonna try it anyways.

Aesop Rock 01-22-04 07:34 PM

the real queston is, is it really worth it? if its a simple bolt on, well hell i'll do but i don't know if my dashboard is worth fussing with

Lodivigo 01-22-04 07:44 PM

Depends really. I'd rather have a newer black dash than be stuck with my old fading cracked grey one.

Aesop Rock 01-22-04 07:54 PM

guess i got lucky cause mine is still good

ERAUMAZDA 01-22-04 09:37 PM

nobody on this forum has ever gave me a straight answer for this. It's like no one has ever done it.

cr4zydr1v0r 01-22-04 11:58 PM

try it out

well then try it out and tell us

importedrx7 01-23-04 10:39 AM

well im gonna attempt this if the holes dont match up ill make my owen! also they look exctly the same hope it works wish me luck but i dotn plan on doing this swap till the first of feb.

SAiamNE 01-23-04 12:34 PM

WHOLLY JEZZZ GUYS!!!
If it worked for me from an 87-90 then it must work from an 90-87..

What the hell is the difference? If it works one way it must be able to work the other... LOL...
I thought you guys would be smarter than that..
jezzz..

The 89-92 dash will fit in an 86-88 car, but it will add about 35-40 lbs because of the extra support for the SRS systems that the 86-88 luckly don't have.

35-40 lbs huh? Are u sure?
Were just talking about the black trim with the switches inside. Not the guages and all that other crap...
They felt excactly the same weight to me.. You sure we are talking about the same thing? :p:

Terrh 01-24-04 06:09 PM

All S5's had SRS? I thought it was just the verts..

VietFC 01-24-04 08:13 PM

then i must look for the SRS system that had been missing from my 89

Gibenstein 01-25-04 01:49 AM

Its Icemark he is always right =).

SRS= Suplimental Restraint System = occupant protection that is automatic and the occupants do not need to do something to engage.

All US Spec S5 FC3S (coupe) models had SRS. On the coupes it was the mouse belts.

Only the 90-91 FC3C (convertibles) had SRS, it was the airbag.

They all had re-enforced dashes to prevent sliding that included extra bars and heavier bars for supporting the foam padding.

I did the same thing as what you are talking about (90GTU dash into 88 TII)...The dash fits fine...Just use the S4 harness as I think the wiring is a little different...Here is a pic of what mine looks like (pardon the mess).

40 pounds...shit....I really hope I get that 10th AE dash LOL...don't need to add 40 pounds to the vert
