89-91 FC seat options

Looking to put different seats in my 89 fc. What are my options for a direct bolt in.

Grip 05-27-10 08:58 PM

recaro, bride, sparco etc etc etc....they all make brackets for fc's.

you need to do research, and decide what your budget is.

no_luck is right; any FC seat will fit your car. However, if you're looking to upgrade from what you currently have, you'll want to find seats from a TII, S4 Sport, '88 GTU, '89-90 GTUs or GXL. The TII and GXL seats came in either leather or cloth. The TII-style seats (also in the S4 Sport, '88 GTU and GTUs) had the most aggressive bolstering, but the GXL had the only seats with adjustable headrests, adjustable bottom cushion angle and adjustable lumbar. If your car was white from the factory, you probably have a blue interior. There were blue interiors in S4 and S5, so you may be able to get away with seats from either series. If you care about the fabric on your door panels matching the seats, you'll want to grab the matching door cards if you can.

If you find a set of TII seats in good condition, they're pretty nice seats. They can be on the narrow side depending on how big you are, but I love them.

yea ... right now i have acura integra seats in my seven... they dont look so bad... but i was in a rush to get them in so i welded them to the floor...bolt holes are rusted..(eek)

but ive heard you can get seats from vipers and corvettes and umm.......supra;s (hint they are recaros) and some bolt right in or you can get the bracket for the fc. all these seats have bladders for lumber support and are also "racing seats" and some come heated

I have a Infini IV Mazdaspeed seat for my passenger. Thought I'd give them something nice.
I got a full recaro bucket for myself.

Pretty much any seat will bolt in as long as you have the right rails and brackets.

i got some nice mint condition black/grey leather back s5 seats that are not being used... pretty clean other than just one small tiny tear on the driver side on the black tubing that goes along the edge...

corbeau clubman..cheap and comfy, but hard to get in

I guess this is a good point to offer the information of shell seat vs. steel tube seat. It's a conversation if you're interested in competing at some point. Obviously shell seats don't adjust the back support, and good tube seats don't either. I just had a Sparco EVO traded in for some fab work.

The problem you may run into is mounting the passenger seat to the existing mounting points. The mounting points on the left side of the seat are up higher than the right side mounting points. Brackets for Corbeau seats for instance, put the seat at the left-side mounting level so the seat sits a couple of inches higher than the drivers side seat. If you are doing any HPDE driving with an instructor in the passenger seat, their helmet will likely hit the headliner--especially if your car has a sunroof.
