88 vert top will raise but not retract

Hi, its been a long time since I've posted anything. I had my car garaged over the winter with a battery trickle charger that didn't do the job. So now I have the car battery charged and the car running, but the top will not retract, no beeps or motor sound. The e brake is engaged and its light is on. The raise functions fine, beeping, motor sound, some movement (since its pretty much all the way it can go). I cannot locate those screw holes for disengaging the top motor, if anyone could supply a picture, that would be great. I was thinking of taking out the switch to clean the contacts. I need some advice from you guys.

I had a vert just last year.the roof would go up and stop..you coax it with a hit and it would go back all the way.
tried that yet?
Motors are just in front of the door openings(rear,on the side/floor area.).
I had to replace the whole top but I am not sue about how to clean the switch.I know there is a micro switch on each side of the car on the motors, but I think that is for starting/stopping the motor when it closes the roof.
Anyhow..my take..I am a Coupe guy so we can hand this off to the Vert People..lol!

Try greasing it.

Aren't there switches in the motor tops themselves that tell the car when the top is fully open and fully closed? Possible the switch for down failed. Sadly I dont have fsm for vert wiring to be able to read over, only a thought.

Yea, there are. I've had this problem happen on my 'vert, and basically just needed to take out the rear parcel shelf and side pieces to get to the motors. IIRC, the switch that was preventing the top from going down (signalling that it was fully lowered already) was on the motor on the passenger side. Trace the thin wires running to the motor for the switch, take it apart & use some contact cleaner, and re-assemble.

You have a PM. I hope it fixes the problem.

You might also clean the contacts on the switch itself. I have a 90 with the switch on the center console. A sugary drink got spilled on the switch itself and I was getting intermittent problems with the switch not working. I took the switch out and cleaned it up and it's worked fine since.
