88 tII wont start NO ignition on trailing coil

Yeah so i have no spark on my trailing coil wires and it wont start. I cant remember which plugs didnt need to fire but i thought it was the trailing plugs? Anyhow im going to go try to chase the trailing coil wiring down and check for voltage at the coil. I didnt have any blown fuses last time i checked but im going to go double check.

Just thought i would get the ball rolling here in case I am overlooking something simple.

Thanks

is there anything i can do with this connector to the trailing coil?https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...3&d=1206725011

I dont know if this has anything to do with it but after the ignition switch is on for about 25 seconds a buzzer comes on and stays on until i turn it off. I have plenty of coolant and oil. Could one of those sensors be bad and would that keep the car from running?

I've never heard of a sensor going off when you don't have spark. And I've had problems with spark before. And yes you can run your car off leading only if you can manage to turn it on. Ask your rx-7 buddies if you can use a trailing coil pack that they know works and then go from there......

ITSWILL 03-28-08 01:10 PM

thanks for the info, i thought you didn't need the trailing side.

As far as the rx7 buddy thing goes i have never seen another rx7 around here ever, not even an FD.

I still wonder if whatever is causing that buzzing could keep the car from running?

there is a buzz guide somewhere in the faq. i think icemark wrote it.

"I keep hearing a beep beep beep
Probably the power steering computer telling you there is a problem with the system. The number of beeps before pausing will indicate the problem.
1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.
2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:
The buzzer sounds twice and repeats when the vehicle speed signal is missing input and/or no engine speed signal is found (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)
3-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of stepping motor signal:
The buzzer sounds when there are broken wires or short circuits in coils or harnesses.
4-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of the power steering microcomputer:
The buzzer sounds 4 and repeats when there are circuit troubles other than with the micro computer.
5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal: Steering sensor is mis-aligned or failed or steering wheel has been improperly installed."

Yeah i couldn't quite translate this.

ITSWILL 03-28-08 01:18 PM

mine doesn't beep just buzzes

ITSWILL 03-28-08 01:22 PM

I guess i cant figure out which case applies to me?

my car doesn't run so after about 25 seconds it just start buzzing continuously and doesn't stop until turned off?

ITSWILL 03-28-08 02:25 PM

yeah all the fuses check out

there is 0 volts to the trailing coil and about 7 volts to the leading coil (in the ignition on position)

the buzzing comes on at about 20 seconds after the ignition is on and doesn't turn off unless i turn the ignition off ( i let it stay on for 2 minutes that all i could take )

also kinda weird when i just tested it my turbo timer stopped working still gets power but doesn't count down, probably just reset or something idk?

Fc3s_d1jp 03-28-08 02:40 PM

Hummm I'm trying to get my rebuild to startup and after a while when I turn the key to on the buzzer goes off. I wonder what the problem is?

ITSWILL 03-28-08 02:48 PM

let me know if you find out. Im really starting to consider completely rewiring the whole thing.

HAILERS 03-28-08 06:25 PM

The LEAD and Trail coils are fed batt voltage from the same source/wire. A black/yellow wire. It's not reasonable to expect to see voltage on one black/yellow and not the other black/yellow. Makes no sense at all.

Trail coils are not needed for starting. The Lead is needed. If you have spark on the Lead, then the car should start.

The buzzer is the water low buzzer. Pull the plug off the sender and gnd it when you hear the buzz. The buzz will stop buzzing shortly after you gnd that wire.

Odd conditons will put the Trail in a Fail Safe mode. Only the Trail. Something like waaay low battery voltage.

Fc3s_d1jp 03-28-08 06:46 PM

True, I just got a new battery and the buzz went away.

RotaMan99 03-28-08 08:36 PM

thanks for the info, i thought you didn't need the trailing side.
WAAAYYY to many people say you dno't need the trailing and that it does nothing for performance.

It has a lot to do with performance. You can run the engine on either the trailing OR the leading but the engine will run best with both. The engine should also start fine without the trailing or the leading. As long as one or the other are firing. I have tested this on my engine. I have started and drove the the car with one or the other.

ITSWILL 03-28-08 09:26 PM

well i got it to start by dumping some gas down the intake but it wont turn on when i try to restart it.

I have recharged my battery put new batteries in it and it keeps buzzing

Fc3s_d1jp happy to hear your buzz went away.

Im not going to worry about the trailing coil for now since it seems i have sufficient ignition to run.

And where is the low coolant sensor? i cant seem to find it in my manual.

Fc3s_d1jp 03-29-08 05:07 AM

Its on the top of your radiator, a couple inches from your radiator cap. I checked the resistance of my trailing and leading coils and they where fine. Gonna give it a try once the sun comes out, GOOD LUCK!!!

ITSWILL 03-29-08 11:41 AM

thanks guys i'll let you know if that stops the buzzing.

ITSWILL 03-29-08 09:26 PM

yeah i went to check the sensor and the wire seemed to have been cut and i found a loose wire and grounded it and wahla the buzzer stopped so i guess i got that part fixed. Thanks for your help guys.
