88 rx-7 feedback please i need help

i bought an 88 rx 7 gxl
alot of people i talked to say that its a bad car because the rotary engines are bad news
i live in MA and i was wondering if anyone knew of any specialist for rx 7s
this is what is done to it

New racing clutch, racing seats, 4 points harnesses, custom short throw shifter, alpine cd player, mb quarts front and rear speakers, brand new custom exhhaust manifold to tips (3" pipes Y-piped to 3 1/2" air-cooled tips)new radiator, brand new gas tank from mazda, new hoses, new belts, new thermometer, moonroof, adjustable suspension, power everything, & good alignment. 113,000 miles on the engine. Runs excellent, idles @ 500rpm and does 0-60 in 7.4. Maintenanced reguarly. I also rebuilt the starter just last year so it works perfectly. New alternator as well.

im thinking about a tubro setup

i just want any feedback possible

As long as you keep up on maintenance you should have no problems. Relibility issues are mostly from the turbo engines. Which still isnt that bad unless you are doing stupid things.

You should check the NE section. There's a lot of Massachusetts people there. And read the FAQ -- A lot of good info there.

Also, what part of MA? (I'm from RI)

it was owned by a mechianc and he said all matientance was done every 2,5k miles
only thing it needed was new front brakes and a paint job
i paid 800 for it

what would be a safer hp upgrade before i need to rebuild the tranny and or engine
it has 113,000 miles on it?

I also have an 88 GX...you should be idling around 850...not 500...500 is way too low...turn the air adjust screw ontop of your throttle body to adjust the idle speed.

i live in providence RI
and in Fall River Ma

umm i was wondering about the idling
what does it mean if its idliing low?

About the only upgrades hp wise you can make before porting the engine are intake and exhaust. Other than that there really is nothing that would make a real difference. Going turbo is a whole other issue and is not as simple as a bolt on kit. They do not make turbo kit's for N/A's it's all custom work.

88zesc 06-25-06 02:26 PM

do you have any suggestions about turboing it?

You're probably reading the idle wrong.

If it's right smack in the middle between 0 and 1000 than it's around 700 where it should be. Not 500.
