88 NA Convertible Manual Trans. Capacity??

Hello,
I'm VERY sorry if this has been answered, but I found some conflicting information on the capacity of my 5-speed manual transmission. The FSM says 2.1 for the NA (non-turbo), but I just pulled more than that out of the trans (pretty black after 10+ years or possibly more). I'm guessing about 2.4 to 2.6 qts. I see the turbo version shows 2.6 qts., but I'm definitely not a turbo and it was not leaking out of the fill hole when I opened it.
I have the car level except for a slightly higher front end than the rear...no left to right slant. So, I don''t know if the Convertible possibly has more capacity??

Ultimately, I'm putting Redline MT-90 in and I'm thinking to fill until the fill hole starts to leak out. But, I know this will probably take around 2.6 qts, and definitely more than the 2.1 qts even with the car perfectly level.

Is there something I'm missing? Or, should I just add 2.6 to 2.7qts and let it overfill and then make sure the car is absolutely level and then tighten the fill plug and expect it is right? I'm just thinking it will end up with more than the 2.1qts for sure and I'm looking for a reason.

The '89 FSM indicates a 2.6 QT capacity for N/A and Turbo. Same trans as a S4, so just fill it to the bottom of the fill hole.

manual tranny or rear diff?

regardless of the EXACT amount as original and in the fsm...

UNLESS u can guarantee every last bit of OLD stuff is sucked out, '

the amount YOU use depends on...

1. how much is drained.
2. spill/back flow at the FILL PLUG...

so the process for both (tranny and rear end) is to drain (at the plug) or less ideally suction...

then FILL to the lower edge of the fill plug (car level) or till the excess spills OUT the hole.

i purchased 6-7 quarts and cannot (no one can) tell you EXACTLY how much either ultimately took.

i suppose it's possible to OVER FILL either, but it would take work to do that, like intentionally RAISING the front or drivers side, or both.

NO limited slip, so no need to add this to the rear end.

cheers
henry
