88 (Manual Seatbelt Retractor) Anyone ever rebuilt it?

I imagine there is just a huge spring in there. Anyone ever rebuilt the retractor? Mine stopped spooling back into the car long ago.

I've got the same problem. Meh, it doesnt bug me so much, but theres alot of shit i dont like about the interior, so its trivial in my eyes at this point.

Thanks, but Verts are so rare, I don't bother with the boneyards. Besides, my car has a million mile odometer, and I plan to keep the car until it reaches that number, or I do. So, I only plan to replace my worn parts with new.

Sorry to dig up this old thread but has anyone done this? At this point any vert seatbelts you find in the junkyard would be so old they are either about to give out or already have. So any info on a rebuild would be nice

There's a chance you could retrofit belts/retractors from some other model. I would recommend good research though since the locking mechanisms could be too different to be safe.

This subject has come up before, and I could have sworn there was a detailed writeup about disassembling and cleaning the manual seatbelt retractors to improve the performance. I tried searching and I just couldn't find it.

I did find this old thread about cleaning part of the mechanism to prevent premature lockup of the belts:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...belt+retractor

Maybe somebody else has a better recollection of finding the thread(s) about this subject?
