88 gtu tranny special?

Hello, I just blew my tranny, and my dad just went to a junk yard and pulled a tranny from an 88 rx7. I have a few (not smartest but ... smarter then mine) friends of mine that say the 88 GTU has a smaller gear ratio? Im quite new to my rx7 (had it for about a week before I blew the tranny) and I know it has LSD, and the gears feel VERY small (3rd is useless) but are they smaller then a 88 normal rx7??

Thanks

LSD is better than not having it IMO...id throw it in or makes some cash from it!

No sorry you misunderstood my question.
My tranny broke.
I think 88 gtus might be special because it has lsd and I think the gears are small.
my dad just went to junk yard and got a new tranny from a random 88 rx7 (non gtu)

Is this tranny going to be the same as what I had before?

Thanks sorry for confusion.

(sorry again im noob, is the LSD in the tranny? am I going to lose my LSD?????)

From what I know there is only two trannys. Turbo and non-turbo and they are only differant in first gear, and driveshaft output.

Ok cool, I just checked the sticky about what each year / model came with but the 88 papers were very non specific. But ok, I need one more person to agree with you and I will sleep better tonight.

Wow... I thought EYE was a noob.

I'll be nice....

LSD is Limited Slip Differential.

IE it's the DIFFERENTIAL.

The transmission and differential in a RWD car are separate.

I don't know if you're transmission's gears are the same or not, but if it plugs in and works, I think that'll be the most important thing.

You clearly need to educate yourself just a bit more about these cars, and it seems cars in general, before you start worrying about little details like - will this tranny be the same???

Do what I did, and still do. Read. Read these forums, and other forums. Search references on rx-7's on the web. Look around. Read.

The tranny fitting is kinda of a big deal, especially when its sitting here in my drive way after I removed it. Yeah, clearly I need to educate myself. I feel you need to turn your jets down a few notches before you come hauling out of the gates so fast bud. Just a simple question, if you dont know the answer you dont need to flame on a very confused response. I thought maybe there was some weird connection between the tranny and the lsd (notice the ?????) because of his very confusing response about the lsd when that wasnt the issue at all. (was a very confusing post about selling my lsd? haha)

My GTU have 5 lug instead of 4, I have LSD, I have stiffer front and rear suspension, and I have been told the only the 88 n/a was made like so. Is it ok if I check to see if the tranny my dad got from the junk yard was the same tranny? If you didnt know this, then maybe you should research? You can read, read, read, the forums or use the search button.

Hows it feel?

The 89+ GTUs had a different transmission. The 88- GTU tranny is the same as the other N/A trannys of the year.

Ok THANKS very much. Have a good night all.

No the tranny is still the same as any other N/A FC the final drive or rearend gear is different, its a 4.33 in a GTUs opposed to the 4.10 in anyother 5spead FC and it was a 3.90 in the auto cars..
