87 TurboII streetported......

I have a couple questions, hope everyone can give me a hand on these problems....

- When I start my car, I always need to give it a little gas. If not, it wont be able to start, why?

-Is there anyway to find out if this is a FC or FD alternator? (picture is attached at the bottom)

-I recently bought a red top optima 720CCA, the battery keeps being drained overnight and I need to unhook the cables whenever I park the car. The alternator should not be the problem because it could hold charges while it was running but I haven't tested it. What other possibilities could it be?

you have a decent draw somewhere draining your batt. start pulling fuses and using a multimeter. when did you last replace your fuel filter? as far as that alt, try cross referencing the part number, if legible

Looks like the normal crappy FC alternator to me. Kind of hard to tell, though. Get the alternator tested. Most auto parts stores will perform this for free. Do not leave the battery terminals on the battery, causing it to drain. Also, check your fuse box in the engine bay.

You most likely have a bad alternator.

There should be a two wire plug connected to the alternator. If this two wire plug is connected to the back of the alternator then it is an FC alternator while if the plug is connected to the side it is an FD alternator. If it is an FC alternator then you need to look at the shape of the two wire plug so as to determine whether it is a T shaped plug or if the two wires in the plug are side by side. T shaped plug means it is an S4 and the other shaped plug means it's an S5. An S5 alternator needs to be wired differently then an S4 or it will drain the battery.

probably not in a while for the fuel filter. What do I wanna read on the meter?

Thanks for the info. I will definitely look at it. Never know S4 and S5 have different wire plugs
